Pulp – Anorexic Beauty Lyrics 22 years ago
I think this song kind of mocks anorexia... how girls think that it's good to be thin, and how they starve themselves to be gorgeous, but really, how she's a nightmare because she's so thin and brittle.

Dido – I'm No Angel Lyrics 22 years ago
In this song, Dido is trying to convey the feeling of messing up something beyond reason. How she isn't perfect (no one is) and isn't going to be chained.

Personally, I can relate to this song, because I messed up in my current relationship. And he loves me more than anything, and I messed up and now he doesn't believe when I tell him I love him.

When she says "And I hope that you see this heart behind my tired eyes," it could have a number of meanings. Is she physically tired? Emotionally tired of the relationship? Emotionally tired of her self? Or maybe all three?

Have you ever messed up and wished you could take it back, wish you could make it better, but just don't know how?

Saved By Grace – A Loss Of Innocence Lyrics 22 years ago
Actually, I quite honestly don't think this song is about sex at all. Actually, I quite honestly don't think this song is about sex at all. It seems more to be about a guy who believed his girlfriend love him, to find out that she never really did. When he refers to “your dirty love” in the first line of the song, I feel that he isn’t referring to it as a sexual love, but rather an unclean, soiled love. The secret he refers to, that she hides so well, most likely refers to when she said “I love you.” He believes that she doesn’t mean it anymore, and really questions whether she ever did.

It’s such a horrible feeling to be hurt, and a lot of the Saved by Grace songs reflect that.

The New Amsterdams – Never Treat Others Lyrics 22 years ago
:::the following is based on how i once felt and could relate to it:::

“You can run from the sorrow and all that you lose, is the chance to make peace with the path that you choose.” This line states that running away from your depression is just making it worse. How the only way to even start to overcome it is to realize that it’s there, and that it has to be dealt with. It also seems to be hinting that everyone is sad (not depressed, but sad) to an extent, but just act happy, which slowly crumbles them more and more.

“Little apple, I'm sure, is as small as you think, bitter reminder the drown is in the drink.” This line, through sketchy, can pretty much be interpreted into the idea of your depression being as small as you think it is, and it only seems larger because you refuse to cope with it.

“I admit, I regret, that I'm needing you.” He seems to not want to admit that he needs someone to help him out of his depression, because he’s too deep in it to pull himself out. “I'm depressed, you're the mess, that I looked up to.” He’s seems to, at this point, start to realize that the person he looked up to for help out of depression is more of a mess than himself.

…Therefore he feels as though he should take back every time he asked for help… “I retract every word that I say.” He then states “I swear, I'll never treat others that way.” By stating that, he shows that this person obviously did little to help them out of the depression, despite whatever efforts they may have tried.

“Maybe this isn't anything like it should be” seems to be when he realizes that he shouldn’t be looking to others for help. “You'd be humble and famous, it falls perfectly.” He notices that if he gets better, that this person would believe it was because of them, when it wasn’t.

“I have made some decisions, choices you make, then I see, to my error, I've made a mistake.” This seems to be when he realizes that what he was doing to ‘help himself’ is really what the other person told him to do to make things better, which really didn’t help him.

“Don't open your mouth, don't worry about it.” Seems to be him stating that either he doesn’t want to talk to the person anymore, or that he doesn’t want them to feel as though they have to help him anymore, or apologize.

“If I was in your place I'd never allow it.” States how he feels about this person, how he finally realizes that he shouldn’t have looked up to them because they don’t help.

The Ataris – Clara Lyrics 22 years ago
This song I feel is partially about suicide. The person is obviously depressed “I saw you crying.” The singer is talking about how he feels bad that he honestly doesn’t care that the moment.. “… as I turned away, Did I see your face, like it wasn't there And I know I was wrong...” The singer definitely seems to feel bad that he doesn’t have feelings for the depressed person.

He seems to start to reminisce about how he felt before he met her, and how he remembers being depressed, hoping that she doesn’t make the same mistakes that he made in those situations.

Then seeing if everything’s okay… “So everything's fine now, at least you say, Maybe that's o.k. - But you know it's wrong.” It seems as though she’s trying to convince him that she’s doing alright but he can see right through it, having been there himself.

“Was I right, did it last? Were you dwelling on the past? Or hanging on to a memory?” It seems like the singer is trying to show this person that he was right. That depression doesn’t go away like sadness does. That it sticks with you and nothing can change that.

“Maybe you should go ahead and jump... Then you'll become exactly what you are hanging onto.” It seems like he’s trying to show them that all they’re hanging onto is a life of suicide attempts. This line can have two meanings. Because a person who jumps either jumps out of fear (stating that the person in the song is hanging onto their fear) or jumps for the sake of doing something fun, or something thrilling (stating that they’re holding onto the good times.

“Standing there on the bridge with your feet on the ledge maybe I might push you over the edge... and send you falling straight to the ground.” It seems like now he returns to how he felt at the beginning of the song. Not knowing whether to help the person out because they’re a human being who deserves to live, or not help them out because he doesn’t personally like them.

Nine Days – Favorite Song Lyrics 22 years ago
This song is so great… “What if everything you had was like a castle made of sand? Would you open up your hand or hold on tight?” If you think about it, this line is the absolute greatest. When you go to a beach, you might want to try this out: holding onto sand too tight forces it out of the tiny cracks between your fingers, and opening up your hand while you have sand in it makes the sand fall out. Either way you lose the sand. So if everything you had were to be made up of sand, wouldn’t it all be lost eventually? Haven’t all castles that have been made, crumbled. Does anything last forever?

“There's no one left to sing along with you tonight.” When everything crumbles, when everything ends, who will still be there for you? Who will help you remember what went right after everything’s gone wrong?

“Everything is alright, I will see you tonight. Everything you want is in your hands.” A this point, the singer is basically saying that he will help you remember the goodness in the world when it seems that it has vanished. That he’ll find you and make you realize that everything you’ve always wanted, is what you always had.

“And I can't help you decide the battles you fight inside. And what hurts you, you don't understand.” Now the singer is saying that no matter what happens, you have to realize that you make your own decisions. When things don’t go how you planned or how you wanted them to, it confuses you because pain isn’t something you want to feel. Things ending in pain isn’t how it was planned.

“And it feels like there's nothing right and it’s all the same to you anyway.” This line really shows you that even though things seem as though they aren’t right, it’s as right as they can be. Because no matter what, you will always feel the way you feel inside, and no matter what good comes in the world, you’re always going to feel the same.

“And that place you wish for is just outside your front door. Still, it never seemed so far away.” Now it goes back to the point that everything you ever wanted, is what you’ve always had. And it’s taken losing that [thing that you never knew you always wanted] to realize that it was what you wanted from the start.

And at the end of the song, the whole light/dark comparison I find pretty strong. How you wait for the sun [light] to come and make things better, but how even when the sun is out, all you let people see is your shadow [dark].

Saves the Day – At Your Funeral Lyrics 22 years ago
I remember my friend and I staying up late one night interpreting all off the saves the day songs. I think this song shows how sometimes people get so involved in things (such as drugs) that nothing else seems to matter.

For example, the quote “and if I flooded out your house, do you think you'd make it out or would you burn up before the water filled your lungs” has so many meanings behind it… the whole idea of would you notice that something life-threatening is happening. Then you go to think… is he really talking about physically flooding out the house, or is it really talking about trying to save him from drugs by telling him all of the horrible aspects of it… do you think the idea of “would you burn up before the water filled your lungs” is really referring to the idea of him being “burnt out” by the drugs before he drowns in the ideas of what they can do to him?

Then you get to the part “I'd offer you my hand, it would hurt too much to watch you die” and you wonder if he’s talking about the guy actually dying and he doesn’t want to see it, or if he’s talking about offering his support to his friend’s decision of doing drugs, but he can’t do that because he thinks that he’d be part responsible for the effects.

Then, you get to my favorite part… “they'll lay me on the dinner table and I will be the pig with the apple in my mouth the food that celebrates your end”. Is he talking about really celebrating his friend’s death, or is he talking about celebrating the end of his friend’s battle with drugs. Neither. He’s got to be talking about how his friend’s death would kill him… how if his friend were to continue doing the drugs it would devastate him to a point where he would be dead as well.

At your funeral, I will be the dead one. I will be the one that no one notices the pain of, the suffering of.

Saves the Day – Certain Tragedy Lyrics 22 years ago
this song has always been a favorite of mine.. and i have never been able to relate to it as much as i have now... "even the most beautiful of all roses must someday crumble to dust and fade away"... i remember once carving this quote on a tree with a friend, just so that i would always know that life won't always be as good as it is now...
