How can we dance when our earth is turning how do we sleep while our beds are burning - this means that the atrocities the white people commited on the indigineous population are analagous to the white people burning their own beds. The "How can we dance when our earth is turning" is saying how can we do something (ie against indigenous people) that shouldn't be possible, looking at it in a plain and uncomplicated way. |

| I think the country/city girls things is misread - the song is not about that at all. The "poundcake" analogy is about relationships - something that might seem boring on the outside but it actually more sastisfying in the long run. | |

But some of this song makes sense. The "pineapple head" represents all the options (eg phone numbers) he has for a relationship. It is spinning in front of him, he does not want to choose because he does not want to make a commitment. But if he did, he would "play her like a shark" and "clutch (desperately) at her heart" meaning that he would commit deeply. So on one level this song could be about a person's struggle with staying single and free, or commiting to one person. |
