This is an old traditional song about a failed attempt at prohibition in England in the early middle ages. John Barleycorn (alcohol) wins in the end because people depend on him too much. |

i saw it slighly less negatively; they want to move to a quieter place and settle down, but probably financial reasons and boredome or thinking they would miss the town keeps them from doing it. it is sad, but a great song |

I don't think this is about heroin as suggested; there's just not enough evidence-although there may be some alternate meaning. Remember ashes to ashes is a lighter toned song written years later-only the character tom connects them |

If you have some free time here is something cool to try-someone showed this to me in college and it freaked me out: play this song while you play the last scene in the movie 2001 a space odyssey with the sound down. The music fits the flight of the spaceship perfectly. then, if you timed it right, the climax of the song corresponds to when the astronaut turns around and sees the other being in the room-it gave everyone in the room chills. I did a little reading on this since I'm a huge Floyd fan and Waters had even said in an interview they were disappointed they weren't asked to do its soundtrack and he didn't deny trying to sync up the two, so I'm positive Floyd did it intentionally- it would be too big a coincidence anyway. |

Favorite Zep song. I thought they wrote this song. Anyway, I always think of Odysseus leaving Calypso's Island - the sea and his home calling him. It's right up their alley (Achilles last stand) |

I think the invisible sun is God. It could also be anything you need to believe in to get through a tough or meaningless life |

the song is more 3rd person. The character is about to slit his wrist but at the end he loses his nerve and never makes the "final cut" |
