| Lil' Wayne – Drop the World Lyrics | 15 years ago |
|
I like to think this song's about overcoming adversity when life's been handing you nothing but challenges and misfortunes. Whenever I hear this song I think of my dad. He lost his business a few years ago and his health has been failing since. He's been in awful pain while trying to get healthy, and on top of that, he desperately needs to get back to work and get an income started again. He could easily just give up (fly off on a space ship and leave earth), but he always tells me all the hardships he's facing just makes him stronger. He always tells me not to worry, and that it's only a matter of time until he picks the world up and drops it on your fuckin heads. Inspirational. |

| Jay-Z – Empire State of Mind Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| I would love this song so much more if Jay-Z didn't have to sneak in lines about how sick he is. I'm pretty sure the Yankees made wearing the Yankees hat famous - it wasn't you, Jay-Z. Rest of the song is great though. | |

| Fall Out Boy – Pavlove Lyrics | 16 years ago |
|
Amb3llina - After further listening I am going to disagree with you in that I think this song is most definitely related to women and not hard drugs. Also, I agree with cjxrawrly that the line is: "She's back to the BEDROOM for one more." Here's why: When I listen to this song, I really do picture a person in a social setting (i.e., bar, nightclub, etc.) looking to pick up a girl, specifically, for a one night stand. That's where the line "She's back to the bedroom for one more" comes into play. I see two possibilities here, (a) here is a girl who is experienced with one night stands and is back once again to the bedroom for the no pants dance after meeting someone earlier that night, or (b) a prostitute who is turning tricks for money and is going back to bed for one more (i.e., customer). Furthermore, I don't think there is one particular line in the song that serves as the crowning example for the Pavlov behavior. I think the Pavlov behavior here is related to love, or at least lust (thus the play on words "Pavlove"). "I'm the invisible man who can't stop staring in the mirror" is part of it though. You can't take this line at face value. An invisible man looking in the mirror is simply wasting his time. It has nothing to do with vanity. It's a great metaphor really. "I want to make you as lonely as me so you can get addicted to this." Whether hooking up for one night stands or soliciting the business of prostitutes, the fact is that sex with multiple random people will not be as fulfilling as a sincere relationship with someone and will leave you feeling lonely. In this song, I think there is jealousy felt for people in good relationships and the jist is that misery loves company. |

| Why haven't more people shown love for this song??? It's the best on the album!!! Fools... | |
| Fall Out Boy – Pavlove Lyrics | 17 years ago |

I don't know if there is a connection, but Pavlov was a russian physiologist who: "studied the digestive system of dogs, investigating the nervous control of salivation and the role of enzymes. His experiments showed that if a bell is rung whenever food is presented to a dog, the dog will eventually salivate when it hears the bell, even if no food is presented. This demonstration of what is known as a conditioned response prompted later scientific studies of human and animal behavior." I think the title "Pavlove" is a word-play on Pavlov's conditioned response study as it relates to human (male) behavior whenever a ridiculously hot girl is spotted. "Something make my chest Stir Something make my head blur" Basically saying, whenever I see a hot chick (presumably at a club, bar, church camp, NASCAR race etc.) I want to drink my face off to work up the courage to game that female. I'm not sure if this is the "conditioned response" or if it has something to do with looking in the mirrors or if I am completely off base. I'll stop now in case I'm butchering the meaning of all this. In any event this song makes my foot tap. |

| The Academy Is... – One More Weekend Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
I get the feeling like this entire CD is a therapeutic outlet for the Academy Is in dealing with a quarter life crisis. Although it pales in comparison, this song reminds me a little bit of "Soco Amaretto Lime" by Brand New or "Sophomore Slump or Comeback of the Year" by Fall Out Boy. |

This song would be better if: 1) The title of the album wasn't "Fast Times at Barrington High" 2) It was sung/rapped by Snoop Dogg |

| Death Cab for Cutie – Pity and Fear Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
Pretty obvious IMO. This song is about having an inebriated one night stand with a woman and then wetting the bed with her still in it. A ravine is a narrow steep-sided valley commonly eroded by running water (urine), so the woman must have been rather heavy to contort the bed into such an extreme fashion. He is envious of her because she can easily cleanse herself with a shower or bath, whereas he must live (at least in the short term) with the embarrassment and shame resulting from his lack of bladder control. The clean escape implies she took off before he woke up and realized what he had done, thus avoiding an awkward situation. There are no tears when he wakes up because he is so dehydrated from the previous night's debauchery, but there is pity for himself and fear that if this whale of a woman opens her mouth about this, then homeboy is finished. I'm glad to see that DCFC is starting to branch out musically and test new waters. |

| Death Cab for Cutie – Your New Twin Sized Bed Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
Thank you for the quote, Chadp123. That's kind of a weird list to keep, but I'm sure it comes in handy when new song material is needed. I just wonder when or why Ben or any other DCFC member might have had the opportunity to witness a full grown man sleeping on a twin size bed. Seems more private than a woman crying in the airport. Maybe they invested in a pair of pocket binoculars. Fortunately there is a solution for Twin Bed Syndrome. And as anyone who has seen commercials during after hours Comedy Central television programs can confirm, that solution is natural male enhancement. |

| Death Cab for Cutie – Talking Bird Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
How is this metaphorical bird free to leave or stay if its feathers are tattered and furled? To me this kind of implies that this girl/woman/love-interest/whatever isn't really free to do anything - i.e. has some inherent obligation to fulfill that is the root of all this confusion and complication. As I read the lyrics, it really reminds me of a situation like the one in the movie The Notebook where girl from upper class family has to choose between two different lives (yeah I said it, I've seen The Notebook). "It's hard to see your way out When you live in a house in a house 'Cause you don't realize That the windows were open the whole time" Notebook Theme Translation: It's tough to make a desicion when mom and dad are riding your back, plus the dude they want you to end up with can buy you a REALLY sick house because he's rich, but the other guy wants you so much that he built a house for you with his bare hands, what a savage! But wait, listen babe, don't let all this business about family ties and social advancement get you tethered down, the choice has always been yours. Quit thinking so much and follow your heart!!! Of course I am not implying that this song was DCFC's response to an all night Notebook and estrogen pill marathon, but that the same type of theme described here can be applied as a possible scenario translation. On a side note, this song definitely did not make it to my iPod. In fact, I think the musicianship of this song blows harder than hurricane winds. Interesting lyrics, but dear god is this ever a boring song to listen to. If you are interested in other songs written about pets, check out "Penelope" by Pinback or get the acoustic cover by Saosin which is also good. |

| Gym Class Heroes – Cookie Jar (feat. The-Dream) Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| I wish this song was actually about cookies just to avoid the lame cliche. At least it's catchy. This song will probably end up getting airplay if it hasn't already. Overall, their new album is pretty bad in my opinion. I think I heard Travis drop a line in one song that had to do with him missing someone "more than Shaq misses free throws." How original... | |
| Eighteen Visions – I Let Go Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| I think this song can be taken in two completely different contexts. Just from listening to the song and reading the lyrics, the meaning seems to indicate self-pity, depression, giving up etc.. However, after watching the music video, I almost wonder if the lyrics are meant as sarcasm. It's like, yeah my life is really haunted by a black rain cloud. I mean, just look at all these fine beezies jumping around in their underwear for me and look at all my badass friends who are also rockstars and don't even use condoms. The video probably has nothing to do with the actual meaning of the song, but that would be awesome if he really is sardonically rubbing his sweet life in everyone's face. | |
| Saves the Day – Rocks Tonic Juice Magic Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| Oh my god! This song is so epic. It reminds me of that scene in King Kong when King Kong messes up all those T-Rexes. Whenever I hear this song I start making things out of red Playdough. It's just awesome baby! | |
| Saves the Day – My Sweet Fracture Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| This songs reminds me of my pants. They are always there when I need them. And whenever I lose them- they are like always routing me on. They are like "go! go! go! go!" I f'n love my pants and i love SavesTheDay! | |
| Say Anything – Wow, I Can Get Sexual Too Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| ROFL ROFL this song is about SEX. Sex is so awesome. I had it once and it was great! I can relate to this song because one time I had sex (I think it was sex at least) and there was a telephone in the room. | |
| Brand New – Not the Sun Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| i am parker lewis: I'm sure Brand New apologizes thoroughly for trying to mix up their sound a little bit so that every song on their new album doesn't sound the same. If this song does sound a tad on the men women and children side, I would also like to add that it is "Not a Problem"...... | |
| Brand New – Limousine Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| I dont know why, but when I hear this song, it reminds me of the scene in the church in Kill Bill. Interesting analysis of the number seven. If this song were a chain, it would hang lower than a wizard sleeve. | |
| Brand New – Millstone Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| This song could be religious if you take it that way. I personally don't. I think he uses some underlying Christian/religous values to instill the impression of some of the old school values he grew up with, with his family before he became "corrupted." I think this song is about the guilt of making a mistake that changes your relationships with those close to you. For example, a child who does not want to carry on the family tradition of adding to a long line of surgeons or doctors to pursue his/her own agenda (he makes reference to sleeping well because he was about his father's work. That could be taken literal or could mean his father's values). Let's take this song literal again for a second. Does any member of Brand New have a professional career other than being Pro at rocking socks off around the world? Maybe they do, but if not, maybe there is some pressure/guilt on some of them for not growing up to be quite what their parents wanted. I think there is more to this song than just that though. I just don't want people running around labeling Brand New a christian band or something all of a sudden just because they make some religious references | |
| Brand New – Degausser Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| swampscotia, that is awesome. I'm not sure Jesse (or whoever wrote this song) was alluding to that, but it would certainly be a kick in the pants if they were and you spotted it. | |
| Brand New – The Archers Bows Have Broken Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
1. Deja was not better. Yes, Deja was phenomenal. Spectacular. But so is this. I think of these songs as songs that Brand New wrote and composed after they finished with Deja. It sucks when someone deflates an album before it has even been officially released. Who the fuck cares which was "better." It's ALL GOOD, baby. Pong, you are absolutely right, I went through the same thing initially. I agree in part with you too, Eyecon. Smaller bands like Brand New that rarely get radio play are hurt more by leaked songs. 2. Song sounds political to me. I usually don't care for political songs, but I must say this was well done as it was written without being overbearing. |

| Brand New – You Won't Know Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| Some of the lyrics are missing here, but this song kind of reminds me of The Quiet Things That No One Ever Knows. In the video for Quiet Things, Jesse kills the girl he was with while driving. This time it sounds like he may have died with her. Jesse really is a slippery slope! Hide your women and children! lol... | |
| Brand New – Handcuffs Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
I think it's too easy and frankly too cliche to always assume that every malicious sounding song is written for or about a girl. Brand New is in a mature stage in their song writing where their lyrics can transcend a number of issues and feelings. I'm not denying that a girl may have influenced this song as it did seventy times seven (well directed toward lead singer of TBS but was over a girl), but I am saying that this song's message could be applied to a number of situations, and for me at least, part of the beauty of a song is being able to relate it to instances in my own life. I think mason338 has come closest to properly interpreting the message here. I think the song is about the inner battle for wanting to seek personal justice for a wrong doing vs. being the proverbial "better man" by finding alternative and more passive means for finding closure. The theme of arresting someone if he had handcuffs and throwing them in the back of a car (like a cop, hey!) as if they have committed a terrible crime implies that although by the standards of law, whatever that person did, though not illegal by any legislature, could be just as cruel if not crueler than any petty misdemeanor or felony. Hence the continued ethical debate of justice vs. the law. I think the song is very logically and creativly written to follow the argumentative thought process we experience when in a rage and debating vigilantism vs. hoping that the theory of "what goes around comes around" holds true. On a camping trip one time, I had a friend who screwed the girl I liked, after she was black out drunk, in a tent, in front of everyone, after I had told him that I liked her and to back off. My first thoughts were naturally to douse the tent in kerosine and drop a match. This would have of course cost me time in the form of prison. I let it go, he came clean and apologized, we are still friends. It would have been a lot harder to have been the better man if he was ungracious about this (as the end of the song wraps up). Oh and Eyecon, what you said sounds idiotic. Fame and success is not getting to Jesse who didn't even write the song aparently. First, Brand New is not even THAT famous as bands go. Second, you don't have to be cold and numb to write a song like this, you just have to be good at expressing the way you feel. |

| Boys Like Girls – Dance Hall Drug Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| The funny thing is, unless these guys are a christian band or something, I bet they are all getting tons of tail and hooking up with young girls. lol | |
| Shiny Toy Guns – You Are The One Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| This is a great song. Good beat, good rhythm to it. Everytime the chick sings though, she reminds me of a mix between the singer of The Cranberries and Garbage. Not sure if I like that. | |
