I think the songs is certainly about Vampires, and the breakdown, him offering blood. What must a vampire do to make another? The bitten human must drink a vampires blood. Davey is offering someone the chance to be like him, and tasting the life flow.

I beleive this song to be about either Mark of Geoff, members of the AFI "family" that then left and then left AFI in shambles until someone could come and fill their place.

Davey himself has admitted (albiet a bit bashful) to this song being about his straight edge ethics, even though they are certainly not a straight edge band. It's basicly him talking about the letdowns of drugs.

If you look at all of Black Sails it seems to relate to a basic time period, Malleus Maleficarum, Exsanguination, Porypheria. They all have a "feel" of the time of witch trials, people with skin deseases thought to be vampires. So it seems he relates this period with his actual feelings. His lyricism relates his problem to something like a sect of people who are outcasted for simple reasons such as a skin problem. Just my 2 cents

Insects molt, so in order to fly one has to shed it's form, thus it being scorned. Which then makes it seem like an allusion to him "shedding" a past item (like a girl, or even better... their old guitarist Mark?) and being scorned in the process. As for the rest of the song, it's obviously just malice, I beleive it could be simply an anthem of Davey's feelings against Mark, along with Lower It. And asking him to show him how to shine is like thinking once Mark left "now what do I do? Tell me how we're to recover from THAT"
