| Jimmy Eat World – Firefight Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
These are the lyrics as I hear them: This is where our diligence has lead The waves roll in to claim our patient steps Can we become more than just ourselves And leave the sand I want, or will our doubt? It's firefight and I won't run. They're spitting spite all through my blood For you and me, there's nowhere left to hide Except you and me, there's no one else alive This is now the moment after next. Are these still the eyes of the temptress? Why open the door if you won't go? Don't ask twice if you don't wanna know. It's firefight and I won't run. They're spitting spite all through my blood For you and me, there's nowhere left to hide Except you and me, there's no one else alive Is there an answer? And if it's an honest one, honestly worth it's question There's no question, The city as my witness, I am who I wanna be, but you could be anything, Just be anything here with me. Love is quartz and breadth of second hand If you let go then that's where time will stand. It's firefight and I won't run. They're spitting spite all through my blood For you and me, there's nowhere left to hide Except you and me, there's no one else alive |

I believe the following lines need correction: "Blood droplets cook like glue" "We'll make believe" "So save for me the pleasantries" "Went out and lost your senses" "Went out and spent your senses" This album may be Matt's best lyrical work since "Maybe I'll Catch Fire", but there's still a blatant saturation of death-oriented adjectives and metaphors to feel that these songs are heartfelt. Early Alkaline Trio songs are so personal and easy to relate to, but as the occult and death theme increased, the songs seemed to be more about shock value than honest emotion. This is the first output in a while that doesn't remind me of a B-Horror film. Matt's still got his touch; he just needs to stop sending his lyrics to Satan for revisions. |

| Death Cab for Cutie – I Will Follow You Into the Dark Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| I've read it posted a couple times already, but I believe the song is for his love, letting her know that death is a frightening thought. We are not sure if there is an afterlife or not, but he is calming her fears by letting her know that no matter what happens in death, Heaven, Hell, or absolutely nothing, he will be experiencing the same as she, and she will not be alone in that. This song elaborates on the love story that "Soul Meets Body" touches on. | |
| Death Cab for Cutie – Soul Meets Body Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| This song seems to be about the hope for an afterlife with the realization that there may not be one. The song also has a relationship involved (which is further elaborated on in "I Will Follow You Into the Dark")- where no matter what happens, afterlife or not, Ben wants to spend his time wherever his love goes. Where soul meets body is also where soul leaves body, hence a rebirth: "feel what it's like to be new". Ben seems to be saying he believes in an afterlife, using his creativity as a reason to believe in a higher power (the Greyhound station verse, and "I do believe it's true, there are roads left in both of our shoes"). But if, when we die, there is nothing, he wants to have the comfort of knowing his love has experienced the same thing ("If the silence takes you, then I hope it takes me too"). | |
| Ted Leo and the Pharmacists – The Ballad Of The Sin Eater Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| Ted Leo was a member of "The Sin Eaters", thus making the song autobiographical. | |

"Safety Head"? Geez - talk about butchering lyrics! These are the correct lyrics: Oh I've been sometimes under your wall. Peeping at all where I'm not welcome. I've seen you one time stumble and fall but I still love you, you see? I've been five times back to the well seeking to tell myself we're something. But you can't teach what you can't sell and I'm not the only one it seems. Chorus: I still would say if you asked, it's built on bonding, but others will take it all and leave you wanting. I know you've done this before to them but here's where it ends and where I stand. You can't hold onto yourself? Well I have got your holy head in my hands. And I've been long time out at your wall, seeking to call you back from over, 'cause when you're out there you seem so tall, but you're not the only one, you'll see. Chorus: I still would say if you asked, it's built on bonding, but others will take it all and leave you wanting. I know you've done it before to them, but here's where it ends and where I stand. You say you can't hold yourself back? Well I have got your sainted head in my hands. And I've been sometimes under your hedge - I ran like a rabbit from your rifles. You had me two times out on the ledge, but I still love you, you see? |

| Alkaline Trio – Your Neck Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| Ever heard that deaths occur in threes? It's a saying that's been around for generations. It seems that bad things happen in groups of threes. I'm not really a fan of Alkaline Trio's overdone dark lyrics on the past 2 records, but I do like this song. It's not as corny as most of the songs off Good Mourning. | |
| Matt Skiba – Good Fucking Bye Lyrics | 20 years ago |
|
You're all overanalyzing it. It's about a bad relationship, getting worse every day, and the songwriter just wants it over. "So you broke down trying to leave town I broke down crying on your return You left me feeling hopeful I'd never see your face again" is about the girl leaving, her car breaking down, and having to come back, to the songwriter's dismay, as he was was thinking it was finally over. This further describes the relationship: "You made for a bad lovers liver" - the only way to deal with it was to drink. "You stole all the covers and busted my head - You made me such an asshole" : shows the relationship was problematic, and angered the songwriter. "I'm tired of being bored I'm through with the headaches" : There was nothing to do in the relationship, everything just lead to "headaches". "And hiding my hands that tremble like earthquakes" : this is more about anger and frustration. "Under the table and under the daytime sky" - being drunk during the day, just to continue the relationship. "When you lose hope it's hard to cope Watching the tyranny with sober eyes At daybreak and sunset All hours inbetween are spent murdering time" : Re-stating that when the songwriter felt the relationship was "done" in his eyes, the only way to cope was with alcohol - all day. Matt Skiba is a great songwriter, when he writes from his heart, and not from the crypt as heard on "Good Mourning". |

| Alkaline Trio – Dethbed Lyrics | 20 years ago |

A couple small corrections: "Calling all cars, all coroners, we got a dead one here" "They found me face down in the street On the night you left to find another place to sleep" And the song title is "Dethbed". |

| Alkaline Trio – The Poison Lyrics | 20 years ago |
|
Here's the correct lyrics: "It's not just a pain The pain in my back That laughs in my face, my face every night All the poison that took my lungs It keeps me from feeling warm But how could a rooftop view in London Look just the same as one in Brooklyn? Nothing has changed but now but now I fight with the words And I can't see so good And there's gotta be more Much more than this I got pages of dreams, they're covered in piss And a poison that took my soul It keeps me from feeling anything" |

| Ted Leo and the Pharmacists – Where Have All The Rudeboys Gone Lyrics | 21 years ago |
| This song is a metaphor for the loss of good popular music, but it's particularly about The Specials, the groundbreaking multi-racial ska group from the late 70's/early 80's. Many references to their songs, such as, "Gangsters", "Stereotype", and "Ghost Town". | |

The lyrics posted are complete junk. These are the correct lyrics: Had we never come across the vastness of pavement, the barrenness of waves and the grayness of the sea; Never lost or ne'er been misguided, we'd have ne'er reached seas so shining - Or come from out of a handsom in Camden to a bar in the basement while all the while it rained; Or come around to the friendliest of faces, handsomest in ugly places - Or come from out of the tunnels we dig in, to see that tunneling's not living, and working doesn't work; Or come to find that loving is labor, Labor's life and life's forever - Or come to see that keeping's not giving, You get what you've given, you get what you deserve; In the midst of all of the action maybe only there found satisfaction. Chasing seafoam dreams around another dirty old town. Parallel run streams toward the gray ocean from the green ground. "Oed und leer, das meer", but look beneath the glassy surface. All the songs you hear: down there they have a purpose. All in all, we cannot stop singing. We cannot start sinking. We swim until it ends. They may kill and we may be parted. but we will ne'er be broken-hearted. Beautiful song, GeeMo summed it up. |

| Has anyone noticed that this song is a total rip-off of "Summer Lovin'" from the movie Grease? I sure have. | |
| Weezer – Dope Nose Lyrics | 22 years ago |
| I have always believed that "This Dope Knows" was the original line. inspired by Rivers' really fucked-up egotistical mind. He hates the personal side of Pinkerton, so now he just writes shit (literally) that will make money. He has the idea that he knows what will sell, so he writes a catchy tune, puts nonsensical lyrics to it, and then, in the chorus, makes fun of those that say Weezer sucks, but still like this song. He's a genius, but it seems he's gone way the hell overboard. Let's hope his next experiment is good... | |

| You guys hit it on the head. One other thing, I think this song is also a continuation of "Know it All". | |
| Alkaline Trio – Hell Yes Lyrics | 23 years ago |
| I think thug hit it on the head, Matt has a great sense of humor, (I do think he did give up on God, though), but he's not preaching Satanism. But, to "UnwrittenMestUpGurly", how can you be so stupid to post "Well, whatever the meaning, i love alkaline trio so much and i really love this song."......Ummm... THIS IS A WEBSITE TO ALLOW THE DISCUSSION OF SONG MEANINGS!! Go get on a chat site about hairspray or new trends, just get the fuck off an intellectual site. | |
| Alkaline Trio – '97 Lyrics | 23 years ago |
| Weed it is. I have been in bands in Chicago that have played with Matt and Dan's bands (Alkaline Trio, Tuesday, Dulcet Tone), and I tell you, from the mouth of Matt Skiba, it's weed. And all you teenybopper morons that think they're cute and sweet remind me of an acquaintance of mine who came up to Matt after one the Alkaline Trio's first shows and told Matt how he connected with him, because he had a shitty breakp, sob... sob..sob, and Matt simply stated, "That song's about pot." This acquaintance was very opposed to drugs, and felt quite the fool. I got a huge kick out of that, just as I get a huge kick out of you idiots. And to "Miss Chainsaw", who is completely lost, He was put on probation (he didn't quit) in late '95....with simple addition, 18 months brings us to...um...c'mon....'97! | |
