i don't see this song so much as being in love, but merely as enjoying life to the fullest. many people complain about extreme heat, but he's basicaslly saying "i'm alive, and no matter what the weather is i'm happy to be here." enjoying life with the people around you has always been a big theme of dave matthew's band music, and this is a great example. let's hope this gets saved cuz i'm having sucky problems with that >.< |

i see the subject of the song as a young girl as opposed to an older one. it just seems like it's trying to convey her niavety, however old she is. it's just a girl surrounded by mediocrity, not realizing how much a part of it she is. she's special, but she isn't doing anything to make her life better, or more full of color. yet, when she's confronted with someone trying to tell her how to actually improve her situation, she runs away from it. she might honestly have the urge to change her life and make it more than what it is, but she's afraid of getting knocked off her high horse. she's frustrated with her life but at least in her simple, grey life she knows she's unique, whereas if she escapes, she might become the medicrity she wants to escape so badly. dave's lyrics are so wonderful to dissect. |

in my opinion: this song is about a guy who wants this girl, but no matter what he does he can't do anything right. he tries, and when he messes up his pride gets in the way so he can't admit when he was wrong (i.e. "still i'm perfect/it must be you cause now it's over."), and he's just coming to realize how wrong he's been. that's where the slightly sarcastic feeling of the song comes in. whatever it means, it's absolutely a fabulous song. i love SoCo. |
