Fav. Strokes song, hands down...I love the sarcasm in, "tell us a story, I know you're not boring"....because, have you ever sat with one of those beautiful girls, only to have them start to talk and end up having a lame conversation? In the end, you've been fucked with...but you get it together and move on. Rock. |

"this man you love" - God
"this boy you hate" - Jesus
A possible calling out of people who acknowledge God, but don't believe in Jesus?
I really think that Billy Corgan has dove into Christian theology. This album is full of references, this being one of them.
"This boy you chance, this man you'll find"
Jesus said in the Bible that belief in him is the only way to the Father...
Anyway, this is a love song...so, you could see it as either God's love or human love. |

| John Lennon – Instant Karma! (We All Shine On) Lyrics

John and Paul had a pretty brutal falling out by the time the Beatles were finished. There's a quote from John, in which he said he would trade Paul for two Georges. They were very competitive...which I suppose is a good thing, because it fueled all the great music they made. I recently watched a video clip of Paul being interviewed on the day that John was shot. He seemed to be borderline indifferent....but that could just be my interpretation. Anyway...while the thought that this song is about Paul is possible, overall it seems to be more of a general message. |

| Elliott Smith – Say Yes Lyrics

This was really the first Elliott song that I heard...and it met me in a place that the words almost identically described. What really stands out is how he details the complexities of a relationship gone wrong...."she's still around"...."wait and see"..."feel like shit"..."can't come to rest"...and the climax, "they want you, or they don't; say yes"....all of these images combine to create a larger picture. It's one of those songs that anyone can just connect to...but at the same time, it's much deeper than that. If I could ever write a song like this, it would be a privledge. |

| Franz Ferdinand – Michael Lyrics

Good music, of course. I've owned the Franz Ferdinand CD WAY before they ever
became "buzzworthy" on MTV...and not liking the words to this song doesn't mean anything. It's great how people will accuse anyone who doesn't appriciate the homosexual lifestyle of being homophobic. I'll give props to Steveo..."this song doesn't 'offend my hetersexuality', it just makes me glad I'm not gay." |

I had maybe heard "Instant Karma!" once or twice before...but I got a copy of "The John Lennon Collection" and when this song started, it was a musical revelation for me. Hearing him strain his voice to belt out, "We all shine on...", gives me chills.
I have to strongly disagree with "Bite Me" on the "superstar" line. Try and think about where John Lennon was at this time...surrounded by the material and superfical rich and famous. I see that line as mocking those type of people...who want fame and fortune over and other good things in life..."Well alright, you are..." |

Me and my friend had this CD on in the background while we were playing XBOX one night....this song came on...my response being, "Uh...what's going on here?". I can't say I'm a fan of the blatent homoeroticism here, either...I think I'm going with geoffk's plan... |

| Bad Company – Ready For Love Lyrics

This song is amazing...I've starting to develop a definete appriciation of Bad Company...solid rock and roll music. I've also noticed that they were a definete influence in creating the band Stillwater from the movie Almost Famous (among other bands). If you listen to the Stillwater song "Love Comes And Goes" from the movie, it's structured exactly like "Bad Company" the song. Pretty cool. |

I've heard that too, vballa. I've read that Brandon and Dirk never got along...mostly because Dirk was really annoyed by how Brandon acts. If you have their latest Morningview DVD...watch the part where Brandon says to Dirk "That's a loooonng bass neck, my friend"...check the look on Dirk's face...he's so annyoned...doesn't respond at all. The song makes a lot of sense if you put it in the aformentioned context. On a side note, I also will miss Dirk. |

Actually, the correct lyric is "follow THEE"...it's taken from an old gospel hymn...Billy just made a new version. I find the numerous references to God on this CD really interesting...and I would love to talk to Billy about it, if I ever had the chance. |
