The song I think is about unwanted intervention by out side party during wars particularly liberation wars like Iraq. The time which this song was released also makes me think this. The first two verses are about what life was like before war broke out in the refugees country. Before war there was a culture/stability "I’ll tell you stories of a better time .... We had a place that we could call home, And a life no one could touch." The chorus is a statement I didn't ask for help, but you give it any way. Then dictate how we rebuild. "Don’t hold me up now, I can stand my own ground, I' don’t need your help now, You won't let me down, down, down! "We are the...And always did what we were told. But we’ve been sweating while you slept so calm, In the safety of your home." Its amazing how this band has blown up. I saw them in 2003 and they would be opening for some of the bands who would open for them now adays. |

Pat was a session, and is considered a far better drummer than, alex, who is quite good, by the band. Nome of anthony's lyrics are religious he's stated he's not a religious person, but he draws from religious imagery because he was raised catholic. He also said in an interview the Lines "I See a blank note page, There is my life, Nothing I can to think to write" basically summing, he doesn't want to write his life, He's not trying to please anyone, or plan out his life... I think the whole song, is written from the point of view of peer pressure. How your instantly judged for what ever you do by everyone else, and living a life not taking the consideration. But, hey thats the beauty of anthony's lyrics they get you thinking, and the song can mean different things to different people, because his lyrics can be taken so many ways. |

I think i've gotten what this song is about. Anthony writes most of his songs in saosin about immediate relationships with his mom, just as he was leaving philidelphia for saosin (3rd measurement in C#), His dad in seven years. I think this song is anthony's frustration with saosin. If you read the interviews on why anthony left for saosin it was because he didn't have any control or input on the music, they kind of wanted him for lyrics and thats it. The interviews that immediateley follow his departures he stated he hated the music and he was living in beau's garage, was putting weight ect. The first word of this song is betrayed. The Avalon is always beside me, and I'm falling apart where is my home? An Avalon in this case is an object, and I think he's referring to Avalon Microphone Preamps, which are used commonly on vocals, Beau owns a highend home recording studio, and does a lot of production, and anthony was living at beaus place. The words I can tell there was an accident here, is referring to it was an accident he joined the band. "Through and through the alpha waves and power cables everywhere. Exercising self-control. The child calls and she lies open. I once believed if only I was thinking at all." The words the child called, is referring to him call his mom, and confiding her. That he once believed in this band, now he thinks he wan't thinking at all, when he made the choice. You stole out like my life. So I'm engaged to smile. This band stole his life, and he pretends to smile. That's my take. |

| Its sad, that cove is compared to anthony 3 years after anthony left on a 5 song e.p. In a sense he's always in his shadow, though all anthony had a 5 song demo with saosin. Anthony's an amazing lyricist, with good use of imagery and metaphor and a very expressive singer, goot at giving specific emotions across. Cove's not bad singer, but he lacks expressiveness in his voice, he hits his notes fine, and his lyrics really generic comparitiveley, and somewhat ambiguous and vague instead of something that paints a mental image. | |

| taking it literally it seems to say two things, freezing time or progressing back to an earlier time if you notice the songs dates are decreasing in backward order. Each description is a stereotypical image of what they youth of the cultural were doing around that time period. the songs essentials message is stop the progression of time , but its ambigous if it is sarcasm or to why. | |

| im usually tired of everyone looking at thrice song;s and thinking everyone of them have religious them, lot of them are about literature, and songs are about personal feeling but this song im pretty sure this has religious themes, the line Kneeling Deep in Nietzsche’s lies makes me think this one may have one. Nietzche was an existentialist writer in the 1800's being an existentialist he believes there is no plan in the universe, and there are only a few existentialist that believe in higher power. Nieszche wrote a essay called Gay Science and in their is an section/story about a madman who qoutes " God is Dead, God Remains Dead, and We have killed him." Nieszche was an athiest however, in this particular case Niezche was refering to the recent discoveries in science was allowing man to understand the world (in the years just before niezches birth and through niezche many fundementals of modern science were discovered), and because we could understand the world man no longer needed a concept of god to explain the whys of certain things. | |

it looks deep enough from here im diving this cliff has been well worn by ignorance (many have before have said the same). I hear the waves crash far below the rocks are leaping for the sky there starving for the air, begging for a bone to break a dream to smash apart but i dont care ( apathy,ignorance)they float face down they all look so content ( comfort of suicide) i don’t know why I’m even here guess I’m afraid to be alone (peer pressure) and down below i see my crew they look okay that can’t be blood the water here is far too blue (element of doubt and gravity seems far away (hes jumped) but i can hear her call my name (element of doubt) its so comforting to know ill never have to think again (giving away lifes tramas) This entire album has a strong element of suicide to it from the first song kill me quickly. Dead bolt. I very much doubt that thrice its self is a religious group noting all the different bands they've toured with check there own website. They do not carry the christian label, very few bands would be accepted in the underground as a christian punk band, regardless whether you think it an oxymoron. 99.995% of punk bands bands get there starts at a local all ages club ect. and 99..995% of punk rock all ages club would refute a christian band. and work there way up. That doesnt mean they dont sing about god, but every song isnt about god either. I think people look far to deep into this, a song is what ever you interpret it as, but it also has the meaning the songwriter intended and ultimateley it is his creation. music is an art and art always has an element of self expression, dustin seems to sing from his heart demonstrated by songs such as T&C i think people look to much for metaphors and forget the feeling of the song. This song isnt sad or angry but it isnt happy either. Its apathetic but from a person who is content. |

Evanesence Is not Christian They publicly anounced that some christian stores started stocking them because of the name, they recalled all records from christian stores. The Cofounder Made it clear during an interview with MTV and VH1 that they weren't christian by taking god name in vain several times. When they found they weredoing well on the christian rock charts they discussed removal with their producers. They consider them self gothic. |
