Very deep and powerful song. It is about all of the things one struggles with and how many times you fall down.. since he was 24 when he wrote this, he talks about how he's fallen down every year of his life... full of screw ups. But this song is about surrendering to God.. "Raising the dead in me" is about God reviving the his spirit... you know, being "spiritually dead" and the "I am the second man now" is him putting his own wants aside and bending to God's will... Jesus is the first man in his life now instead of himself. |

Ok guys.. this is what this song is about.
A guy loves a girl.. and writes a song about her and her life. The end of the innocence is when you realize life isn't a fairy tale anymore.. you grow up! Her parents got divorced, and the people who weren't supposed to let her down ended up hurting her. So this guy's like "well i know a place where we can go that's still untouched by men" a place untainted by hurt or sadness. She can just give up her worries and lay with him... just being still. The end of the innocence is growing up.. learning that life isn't what you thought it was going to be... He's being her comfort... being a constant. |

I can't believe no one has commented on this song. Very emotional song, obviously about a broken marriage. One of my favorite songs by Genesis. |

I think this song is about someone who is in love with someone and that person isnt returning the same kind of feeling. Perhaps they broke up and he's trying to rekindle their relationship but the other perso has moved on... "Every attempt to is filled with holes, reads like a polygraph I'm told. I'm not bitter anyway... Let it go" I just see that his attempts to win her over arent working and she sees his tries and "reads him like a polygraph." Then "Sing a long goodnight, forfeit any fight, refuse to rest assured" They cant let it go... saying a long goodnight is like not wanting to part from someone when youve taken them home and youre standing in their driveway kissing them goodbye and you keep looking back.... "comes with no reply, hold on too tight, i hang on every word" thats the part that gets me... no reply is the person he loves not returning the feelings he has for her... he holds on too tight, just cant let her go. he hangs on everything she says, analyzes, wonders what it was she meant by a gesture or comment. we all do it when we like someone and wonder if they feel the same... |
