I think I'm in love with you eatenbytheworms. That was a great post. (jk about the love part, you know what I mean :)) I also believe that lyrics, in general, not only Radiohead's, can be interpreted in many different ways. Videotape for me means living a moment that transcends all the bad moments you've had in your life. A moment alone that makes an entire life worth living and sharing it with one person. Creating such a bond between you and that person that saying goodbye isn't possible. Maybe he doesn't want that bond to be destroyed by other events which is why he wants to say goodbye and cut the ties when it's at its best. Anyway, it's just my personal interpretation ofcourse. |

I agree with what amongst others DaveyJones and parkov said, or atleast partly. In my opinion this is about a single individual in the modern society, which protects the people to such an extent that they all get sucked up in the grind of daily life. Because of this 2000 man, the individual, starts thinking about what his purpose is in society, in life. He finds that because of the society he doesn't know who he is, or where he is, and loses control over himself emotionally (controls were jammed, lost his maps, his plans). Society (refered to in the song as "they") wants to make 2000 man as one of theirs, to work with them on their plans and try to make new "plans" to make it easier for him to join them in the daily grind (giving in) where he loses everything that makes him an individual. |
