The lyrics here are extraordinary. There is so much philosophy packed into so few words that stir up memories and emotions. This song describes the way I have felt and thought in a way I never could. "could this sky open up and accept this tortured soul but my wings have yet to work " I'm going through hell torturing myself with my thoughts of life, but death is no comfort as nothing but the unknown awaits. "change means nothing when nothing wants to change" That confusion known as death is too unclear to risk. It might not be worth the risk. "break this mirror that changes you" As I sit staring in this mirror, alone with my thoughts, my ideals and philosophies are changed. These thoughts lead to depression and sadness, so I should end this cycle and break the mirror, ending my thoughts. "forever is such an unpleasant word it begins to eat you / from the inside out" As much torture this life may be, the decision to end it is irrevocable. The thought of what forever could be is frightening, perhaps things are better as they are (or could be better, as hopeless as they seem). The perplexity of forever drives you crazy as you attempt to understand. "beg for sleep as the noose is tied around your neck" I've begged for sleep many times - when the thoughts consume you and nothing will console you, sleep is the only escape. Incredible song. |
