i think this song is about an eating disorder, but i also think there's more to it. Mary Jane reminds me of myself in a way, because she is selfless at times, which makes her miserable. It's hard being someone who is "the rock" in every relationship/friendship in their lives, and i think alanis is telling mary jane to just take a break from helping everyone else and get help herself. Please be honest Mary Jane Are you happy Please don't censor your tears Mary Jane is not honest with anyone about herself, and when alanis asks if she's happy she tries to pretend she is, but alanis can see through to her tears. also, mary jane probably puts herself second to others, which means she has to put her feelings aside a lot. So take this moment Mary Jane and be selfish Worry not about the cars that go by Mary Jane needs to forget about everyone else and literally be selfish. she has to take time and explain what is wrong in her life, and not worry about everyone else, especially anything trivial (ie the cars). All that matters Mary Jane is your freedom Keep warm my dear, keep dry Mary Jane is trapped in every relationship she has. she is being oppressed by herself more than anyone, but she cant grasp her freedom to be herself and express her true feelings. the 2nd line, in my eyes, refers to being open and happy without silent tears, hence the "dry" part. Tell me Tell me What's the matter Mary Jane finally, someone is reaching out and telling her to be selfish and for once, be the victim and not the comforter. mary jane can't just come out and say things, she needs some encouragement and a push to express herself. |

this song is definately about depression. "all i can say is that my life is pretty plain i like watchin' the puddles gather rain" rain and clouds are usually symbolic of tears and sadness "and I don't understand why I sleep all day" sleeping excessively is a sign of depression, and he doesnt know why he's sleeping, which leans more towards depression than just simply sleep deprivation "and I start to complain that theres no rain" whenever i'm depressed i always wish for rain, so maybe thats what he's referring to "and all I can do is read a book to stay awake it rips my life away but its a great escape...escape...escape" the only thing keeping him going is an escape from reality through unreal situations "i just want someone to say to me i'll always be there when you wake ya know I'd like to keep my cheeks dry today so stay with me and I'll have it made" i love these lines...umm pretty obvious..he wants someone to love him and get him out of his depressed state and be happy Great song, sad but great :) |

i think "Warning Sign" is about breaking up or fighting with the one you love. whenever i fight with my boyfriend this song always makes me cry. (actually all of coldplay's songs make me cry, but whatever). i love the lines "When the truth is, I miss you, Yeah the truth is, That I miss you so." just because they also evoke emotion when i hear this song, no matter what mood i'm in. i also love the last lines "yes i crawled back into your open arms" because their conflict was resolved and everything's ok again. yay |

i think Yellow is just about being in love with someone incredible. this song is so sweet and uplifting, even though the music is sad. it's such a beautiful song, like most of coldplay's stuff. "Your skin Oh yeah, your skin and bones Turn into something beautiful You know, you know I love you so You know I love you so" i think those lines are so sweet. it's a clever way of saying..."you and everything about you is beautful and i love you". also...the line "for you i'd bleed myself dry" is so beautiful, even though it sounds kind of strange, but when you think about it, all it means is that he would die for this person he loves so much. this song is just simply amazing and it makes me cry, but in a good way :) |

i think this is about ending a really important relationship that leaves you torn up inside, so you look to something else for comfort (like alcohol, etc.) its a great song.... nyblueguy..i love angeles too :) |

in the royal tenenbaums, luke wilson is about to kill himself or cut himself, i can't quite remember and this song is playing in the background. i think the line: "so leave me alone-you ought to be proud that i'm getting good marks" really emphasizes the teenager's perspective on relating to parents. basically, most kids think they're parents only care about grades and other superficial, meaningless things. i do also think this song is about addiction, simply b/c i look around and see people i know, and its evident parents look at college and scores over more personal struggles sometimes. i also love the line "you say you know what he did but you idiot kid you don't have a clue" i just love this song...the music and the lyrics are incredible. elliott smith is awesome :) |

i love this song. it's so beautiful. i don't necessarily think "clocks" is about a relationship, but more about life and security. i think its about going out into the world and getting thrown to the bottom, and then at the end, he ends up home, his safe haven. also, before he's "home" he was hit by life really hard or faced a bad experience, and maybe missed out and didnt take enough chances. i think he may have tried protected someone he loves along the way, b/c of the line: "Gonna, come back and take you home, I could not stop what you now know" |

i think this song is about losing your virginity or having someone give up theirs to you. "You're eyes shine bright like a jesus nitelite" - innocence "You're dressed in white" - purity "My face is white" - fear, anxiety, nervousness "may i help put aside your moral fiber" - making somone lose their virginity/values aka "moral fiber" "I sleep and then I wake make sounds and go to bed and wake again"- going to sleep after sex maybe and feeling guilty or something along those lines "The time is right but I feel all wrong It wastes away until it's gone" - the time was perfect to lose it but he still feels guilty i'm really upset more people havent posted about this band...they're awesome |
