You know, this song really seems more to be asking why this particular asshole decided to become a cop. Yeah, there are plenty songs out there dissing cops in general just for the sake of hating cops, but this song is saying that some assholes become cops for the wrong reason, maybe because of the power that being a cop gives you, you can be a dick to people if you want to. "Left you with meaningless things to prove" and that's why he became a cop. BTW, my dad used to be a security guard for the virginia federal building, not quite a cop but he associated with them, and I have heard some pretty bad stories about cops, and only a few good ones. I think that profession just tends to draw people looking for a way to take out their inner frustrations, which is what the song says. |

I think the verse that says- "Get the kids and bring a sweater Dry is good and wind is better Count the years, you always knew it Strike a match, go on and do it " -makes it pretty clear that it's not metaphorical. Also if you have the cd, the cover is a painting of a woman holding a lit match with a fire on the horizon. |
