| Modest Mouse – Ocean Breathes Salty Lyrics | 21 years ago |

not every song ever is about how a girl left or died the lead singer... I don't have an exact interpretation but there are a lot of death and afterlife images much like the rest of the album. Just as always he's questioning heaven and hell and life altogether (Doin The Cockroach, Styrofoam Boot etc...). Just an awesome song with a lot of good lines and thoughts. |

I'd like to chime in and say just how much I hate scenesters and their infatuation with the goddamn scene. Modest Mouse hit the radio, if you're a fan, you should be applauding this, not getting all pissed off because people like it. What it comes down to is that you assholes are wearing t-shirts for the wrong reason. You guys are waking up in the morning, putitng on the shirt of some obscure band that no one knows. Why? Partly because you like the band, but MOSTLY because you want people to 1. ask you about the band 2. Grab the attention of other scenester fucks like yourself 3. Let everyone out there know that you are extraordinarily different because of your vast record collection that has so many conflicting music types that it's hard to say whether you have good taste, different taste or no taste whatsoever. The fucked up thing is that so many people criticize so many bands (modest mouse, against me, offspring, rancid etc...) for progressing and evolving. As a PROFESSIONAL musician, you change your sound, you try different things. Every modest mouse album sounds slightly different, it's a good thing, we don't need the same shit twice, because then you'd be criticizing them for releasing the same old thing and then call them talentless. If you so called true fans were really true, you wouldn't be crying that they're on the radio and in the mainstream, you'd be happy that they're making some goddman money. There's no point in being a struggling band forever. It's like aiming for middle management so that you can stay cool with the little people. When all you guys start turning down promotions and money come start talking. Geoffk is right...indie/emo/punk kids are dumb as shit that live vicariously through bands and CD collections fuck you guys, fuck the scene, praise the music and appreciate it, because the way you assholes act no makes you no better than the tastless jock/frat types that you tend to bash to no end for being ignorant. |

| Against Me! – The Politics of Starving Lyrics | 21 years ago |
| I don't think that's it at all. He's talking about something less personal and more universal. He's talking about the heedless self-interest of capitalism and it's disregard for the cultures and beliefs of others as it imperialistically forces political and economic liberalism on other peoples. It also has to do with globalization and the movement of factories outside of the US to poor countries and how it's all going off without a hitch because the WTO and IMF are allowing it. The factories in asia and in the maquiladora zone of mexico are being exploited to the point where they can't even eat right. In this sense they are asking the consumer to trade material wants at the price of other human beings, and this trade-off is the politics of starving. | |
| The Arrogant Sons of Bitches – Kill The President Lyrics | 21 years ago |
| this song is downright amazing | |
| Against Me! – Impact Lyrics | 21 years ago |
| yeah, i agree. The average citizen has would not be able to follow him, and even more so in "The Politics of Starving" when he talks about the IMF and how inhumane we are, he's far more educated than most would be led believe, he just doesn't have the documentation. | |
| Against Me! – We Laugh at Danger (And Break All the Rules) Lyrics | 21 years ago |
| if you hear them play this song live (they typically end every show with it) it's unbelievable. For a few minutes in your life you become connected to dozens of total strangers and I swear that at that moment you have never felt like you belonged to anything so incredible. | |
| Against Me! – Pints of Guinness Make You Strong Lyrics | 21 years ago |
| for any of you that are shooting down against me (or just haven't seen them live) should really go see them live, there is no more intense experience out there. Everyone together singing along with the band, the energy and emotion from the band and the crowd is unreal. I get tears in my eyes everytime I yell "and just like James I'll be drinkin' Irish tonite!!!!" they're incredible. | |

| Rx Bandits – Gun In Your Hand Lyrics | 21 years ago |
| War is inevitable, and it's better to get them before they get you, read some machiavelli, he puts it the best. I think his real complaint is that the soldiers are mere pawns, little men, fighting the battle for the bigger men (the more powerful politicians and big businessmen). War will not benefit the soldiers as much as it will benefit the ones giving the orders. | |
| Rx Bandits – Dinna-Dawg (And The Inevitable Onset Of Lunacy) Lyrics | 21 years ago |
| to me, this song looks like a song about consumerism and how we are all fashion slaves and there is no escaping it. The phrases like, "where cookies cut can play their games/wear the shirts of their pricetag names." This is describing how everyone looks and dresses in the same expensive clothing and look like they were made from cookie cutters. The game that they play is sex which he goes into in the next verse when he says "come pull the cord kiss me goodnight/bound in blood dollar signs confirmed" and then "Shut your eyes don't breathe so loud/it's just and episode/shut your eyes don't talk so loud/ it's just an episode/if thats what it costs then I am free" this whole thing talks about how meaningless sex has become as we have sex with anything that will be a slave to the fashions. Then calling it an "episode" which just is just rhetoric that relates to a trend follower that can easily identify with the situation if they consider it an "episode" like they would see on their favorite TV show. The line "a pretty penny now you paid your price/if I ripped my heart fight from you/would you feel it?" this whole thing is also about how meaningless all the sex is and that relationships have become completely meaningless due to our densensitization and how we've become mere herd animals following any trend that will allow us to be "free". I'm kinda rambling, I could be wrong. | |
| The Get Up Kids – Fall Semester Lyrics | 23 years ago |
| the only thing I have to say about the tour interpretation is that the name of the song is called fall semester, referring to school. So I don't know, that's really not important. Great song. | |
| Modest Mouse – Styrofoam Boots/It's All Nice on Ice, Alright Lyrics | 23 years ago |
| it is possible that he's speaking in the third person. It's god talking to the person that doesn't realize that he's actually speaking to god. Great song nonetheless. But once again, Isaak presents some genius challenging the norm. | |
| Modest Mouse – Doin' the Cockroach Lyrics | 23 years ago |
|
I think that this song is about how one life is no different than any other. A very negative existential point of view. It's important to note that a cockroach is a prehistoric insect that has been around forever just doing the same thing and just won't go away. He's saying that everyone is just "Doin the Cockroach" and just living for years and years never really changing what they're doing. When he says, This one's a doctor This one's a lawyer This one's a cash feed He's expressing that all these people are no different than eachother because life is meaningless and they're all going to end up in the same place. the first line, was in heaven I was in hell Believe in neither But fear them as well This shows that he is unsure of the existence of these but tries to live as if they exist. This is an existential view that further proves that he believes life is meaningless. I could go in more detail about the lyric with the years and the lyric when he says "he's not listenting" but it would basically be rehashing what I've already stated. |

| it really does sound a lot like bad religion. It's an amazing live song for those that are lucky enough. | |
| NOFX – Pods And Gods Lyrics | 23 years ago |
| This song is so overlooked. | |
| Thursday – Paris in Flames Lyrics | 23 years ago |
| This is an awesome song, I'm pretty sure the Stonewall Inn Riots was when the cops raided a gay bar, regardless it still would've worked. I'm somewhat tempted to rent that movie now. | |
