Team Sleep – Cambodia Lyrics 23 years ago
Man oh man, this song is beautiful, just like everything Chino has a hand in. I'm not sure exactly what happened to the release...Did the CD ever get out? If it has...Well...Apparently I live under a rock, hence my not noticing...

Tool – Die Eier Von Satan Lyrics 23 years ago
Reading a lot of these comments has made me really quite sad. It's disturbing to see so many people lump all Americans into the same category, and label us all ignorant and uneducated and lazy and as bloodthirsty war mongrels. This isn't true of all of the American people.
I am an American. And I don't feel that I fit the stereotype that many of those perpetuating anti-American sentiment have set forth.
Almost every country has experienced internal unrest, external protests, a period of poor choices, and a time of less than mediocre leadership.
This may be our country's darkest hour in the eyes of the global community, but I beg of you, have enough respect for your fellow humans not to harass and demean us. Have some sense of compassion, and accept and love us as your brothers and sisters, even if you do not accept and love our actions as a nation. If we turn against each other and we allow ourselves to be engulfed in hatred for one another, the human race is truly doomed.

And it isn't the German that sounds sinister. It's the intonation of the guy's voice, and the background effects. But this song was almost definitely tailored to be suggestive of Hitler and the Third Reich.

And I think that this is kind of a combination of three things: 1) It's sort of a joke...Just a lack of seriousness to show the fans that their songs shouldn't always be interpreted in a completely serious way. I mean, it's a recipe, for Heaven's sake, not a zealous manifesto by Tool, seeking to promote the ideals of the Nazi regime, as many may think. Another song with kind of a similar purpose, or so I believe: "Maynard's Dick". I've listened to people struggle to find one of the deep, profound meanings we've come to expect from Tool in this song. But in the end, I think it's just MJK and the other band members just screwin' around and having fun recording a really...interesting...song.
2) I think it is a handy mechanism to eliminate close-minded people from their fan base who would hear this and instantly think "Arrrgh!!! Devil-worshipping Nazis!!! Oh, my precious, virgin ears!!!".
3) And finally, I think it may be sort of a sneaky way to encourage some self-introspection subliminally. When someone hears this, they probably are going to tie this in with Hitler and Nazis and Germans. And the instantaneous connection to the latter is definitely uncalled for and certainly unfair. One of the hallmarks of Tool to me is a call for open-mindedness and, within that, a sort of plea to their fans to attempt to eliminate the predisposition to judge and label others prematurely and harshly. So...Maybe in an odd, oblique way, people who have heard this song, and thought ill of it at first, and later discovered the innocent meaning in it, have subconsciously been tipped off to the fact that they just might be quick to judge and a tad too close-minded. And perhaps, this newfound awareness may spawn an internal revolt against preemptive assumptions and the like.

Eh, I know, I probably make very little sense to you. But that's my take on the song.

Have a splendid day, my friends!

~Kate
