Its hard to put into words how great I think this song is. SA did an incredible job with stretching his voice on this one. He also needs to be commended for a great job writing the foundation to the song musically. On the album preview on the website here's what SA said regarding this song: "There exists in this country something so deadly and prevalent, yet so taboo at the same time. It can destroy a persons sense of self, their relationships, their will to live. Chances are, you know someone who is stricken with this yet they haven't told you a single thing. However, if you were to think about it, you would find warning signs in their personality if you knew what to look for. This song is about child sexual abuse." |

| Alkaline Trio – Continental Lyrics | 22 years ago |

I'm no drug expert but I thought he was referring to free basing cocaine with the spoon reference, not heroin. The more I listen to this album the more I like it. Absolutely love this song, especially with the animal lines: "Wish I could learn to let this sleeping dog die without lying to myself You had nine lives and one by one you chewed 'em up" He can't stop thinking about it and thinking how he could have helped the situation and didn't, or maybe he was just lying to himself that his friend wasn't really an addict. Also, what do you guys think the meaning of the title 'Continental' is? I'm wondering if it is a spinoff off the bed and breakfast in a spoon line, 'continental breakfast' or the wait in the car lines, like a lincoln continental? |

| 311 – Large In The Margin Lyrics | 23 years ago |
| i read somewhere when Soundsystem came out that Nick said he was suffering from insomnia and that "Large in the Margin" and "Flowing" were both written about it. I think what he meant in this song is about being kept awake at night by your past and experiences coming back to haunt you that you can't ever change and can't get out of your head. | |
