This song appealed to me from the first time I heard her enchanting voice sing it in American Beauty. It's sad but also inspirational. 'Finding someone who's turning'..I think that means find someone who's can distract you or help you with your pain. |

To me this song encapsulates the melancholy associated with falling in love and then have to split and only having the memories to dwell on!! |

donno actually errigan, I thought it might have been about a guy who is just a little too nice and idealistic about life and always gets squashed by the nasty people...just a guess really
I agree though, it's also very upbeat and happy, like so many B&S songs |

| Belle & Sebastian – A Summer Wasting Lyrics

This song has is about two of my favorite things...summer time, and spending holidays with friends.
I think there may have been an error in one of the lyrics though. I.e 'seven years of river walk ways' instead of seven weeks. Because the song is about the wasted summer holiday that was seven weeks.
Its like when the beatles recorded the wrong name in their song 'oble de obla da' but left it as it was because recording is so time consuming and expensive... |

I think Casablancas is expressing the insecurity he feels at a turning point in his life....His insecurity is blaring when he sings about ' their fears', 'Yeah, i think I'll be alright', and 'I want you to stay'. Paradoxically, in the next breath he gains confidence to proclaim that 'I see alone we stand, together we fall apart' and 'You say you want to stay by my side, Darling your head's not right.....infact the only thing he is sure about is how good the past was: 'When we was young, oh man did we have fun,Always'. His resisting the tough choices he needs to make to mature!!!!
End of the day I think its a ripper and by far the best song on the album...can't wait for their next album and for them to come to fucken Australia! |

I think its a fabulous song! I can't believe anyone can resist the urge to tap their foot to the drum beat during the solo....In terms of general meaning I think they are expressing the challenge presented when ur a free spirit and fame catches up with you. |
