Reading what people have to say about what VNV's lyrics mean is always interesting. I really dont think anyone but ronan harris can ever truely know what they mean but all you have to do is have a look at the lyrics from the three most recent albums (Advance and follow does fit in but not to the same extent). If you think that he writes anything but songs about relationships (with the very odd exception) you need to look at his work again. PTF - Relationship going through bad spell Empires - The breakup FuturePerfect - Letting go What individual songs 'mean' is irrelivant as the theme is on the album not the songs. Of course this is open to interpretation. The obvious references to war (and the apocaliptic imagary they use live) can point towards everything being about war but take a step back and look athe the whole not the individual and it becomes clear that its not inteded to be a collection of battle hymns. Its all just music anyway. here for us to enjoy (and dance to of course) and not to argue about. |
