this song is gorgeous. some people wonder why it's called 'crystal village' and my personal opinion is that since the song is about a relationship that has gotten old and sour, crystal represents things frozen back in time. he's trying to take her back to a time when 'it was good in the beginning', but she 'will never have the time'. this is a beautiful time and is pete at his best. he's amazing live! |

I totally agree avec rainbow6583--I just saw them in concert last night, and they did both goodnight Elisabeth and Rain King, and that's all I have to say other than the fact that I'm completely out of control leaving comments about the concert, so beware. |

So apparently I'm the only one thus far to take this angle on the song--I won't proclaim it to be right because music is open to interpretation, of course. I see the song as not two people in a relationship or afraid of commitment, well, sort of: I see it as two people trying to decide whether or not to have sex. Yes, it may sound bizarre, but just lines in the song such as "if it's love, she said, then we're gonna have to think about the consequence.." "my friend assures me, it's all or nothing, but I am not really worried, I am not overly concerned." "but I am not ready for this sort of thing.." I'm not trying to advocate anything promiscuous through this, it's just how I see the song. On a sidenote, counting crows are AMAZING live--I just saw them last night and it was the best concert I've ever seen (though I do not have very much to compare it to). |

I see in this song many religious parallels. Some people get annoyed with these sorts of comments, but to each his own. "I have lived and I died for you.. I will never forsake you..I'll struggle on and on to feed this hunger burning deep inside of me..But through my tears breaks a blinding light.." etc. I'm not trying to 'force' my religion on anyone, but it's what i see in this song...so bop bopb op |
