M83 – Skin of the Night Lyrics | 15 years ago |
wow the imagery in the lyrics is incredible it's erotic and beautiful, but sort of gruesome at the same time |
M83 – Graveyard Girl Lyrics | 15 years ago |
this song is cute :3 ps. it is cliche on purpose |
Animal Collective – College Lyrics | 18 years ago |
I'd be saying this too if I made a critically acclaimed experimental music album. |
Jens Lekman – Black Cab Lyrics | 18 years ago |
This song is epic. |
Secret Machines – First Wave Intact Lyrics | 19 years ago |
It's about old school 2d (scrolling, possibly) space shooters of course! A "wave" in these things refers to a level or a wave of enemies. ok that was a joke, I'm positive the song isn't about that, but it'd be pretty cool (nerdy) if that song were, wouldn't it? |
The Futureheads – First Day Lyrics | 19 years ago |
This song is pretty awesome |
The Dismemberment Plan – A Life of Possibilities Lyrics | 19 years ago |
When I listened to this song a couple years ago, I kind of gleaned its meaning a bit, and thought "Oh, hey, that's cute," and kind of moved on. Then, about a year ago, I dropped out of college due to emotional problems (and generally issues with "Where do I want to go?") and lost most contact with my friends. I moved back in with my parents, took a job and they charged me rent. I spent a lot of nights doing a whole lot of nothing, just thinking. I didn't bother to keep contact with anybody, I just thought, and tried to get my life in order. I guess I got a little too self-involved, because, it's a year later, and I'm just now emerging from the ground. Today I sent out an e-mail to a bunch of my friends that I haven't talked to in a while, asking (humbly) to attend a concert with me in the next few months. After I hit send, I had a curious and overwhelming urge to listen to this song. What happened to me isn't exactly the same as what Morrison is talking about (my isolation was more circumstantial than voluntary), but it's certainly similar, and the effects are definately the same. Also, in general, I like this particular album a lot because it deals with isolation and lonliness without coming across as heavy-handed or whiney like most other emo-type stuff seems to be. |
Arcade Fire – Neighborhood #3 (Power Out) Lyrics | 19 years ago |
I don't think this song is anything like Talking Heads' "Once in a Lifetime" because while both songs are about disenchatment with the suburban dream, the similarities end there. "Once in a Lifetime" describes suburban lifestyle as the result of a river, implying that it's where you end up when you just let life take you and don't make any kind of effort to see or understand where your life is going. Or something like that. I personally find "Neighborhood #3 (Power Out)" much more poignant and relevent and dramatic with respect to the contemporary state of suburbia, in which it has become this horrible behemoth in western society, whose center is cold and dead. In the early 90s we saw a large sweeping wave of apathy as a result of a generation raised in this now aged institution of society. Now, a decade later, we are seeing throes of anguish and confusion from a generation drowned by their own neighborhoods. There's a bit more to this song than just that though, that's just the beginning. |
The Dismemberment Plan – You Are Invited Lyrics | 20 years ago |
I think this song pretty much speaks for itself, but it's really a song that I try to make everyone who likes rock music to sit down and listen to at some point. I'd even go so far as to say that this song is the Plan's magnum opus. |
Fugazi – Cashout Lyrics | 20 years ago |
It's about real-estate development and gentrification of poor areas. A lot of people see gentrification as a positive process, but the problem is that it leaves a lot of people homeless without actually solving the problem of poverty. Perhaps more disgusting, is that the politicians that are supposed to be rallying for the impoverished are easily bribed by the real estate companies. |
Radiohead – Electioneering Lyrics | 20 years ago |
I'd just like to say that this song conveys a political messege better than any of the jumbled and braindead RATM songs ever did. It's not the deepest Radiohead song out there, but it's probably one of the more energenic ones (but I don't think that's saying much). |
Modest Mouse – Tiny Cities Made of Ashes Lyrics | 20 years ago |
I don't think this song is about drugs at all. It, like "Different City" is more of a socio-political commentary than anything else. As already mentioned, it's about commercialism and consumerism and all other sorts of controversial "isms". To me, the song seems to take the perspective of a businessman. |
The Beatles – Get Back Lyrics | 20 years ago |
I always thought this song was partially about the "back to the land" movement that was fairly prevailent in the 60s and 70s. I know this song was written around the time my mother moved up to Maine from Massechusetts for the very same reason to "get back to the land" with her (now) ex-husband. I may be incorrect, but this movement became especially prevailent around the late 60s because everyone was so tired of the social strife and just wanted to live a life of peace in the country. Furthermore, generally, it's more about getting back to your roots. |
The Vapors – Turning Japanese Lyrics | 21 years ago |
I'm pretty sure the phrase "turing japanese" in connection to masturbation existed before this song. I'm not sure, but I think so. I think it'd be really silly if that's what this song is really about, but there's no other logical explination. And since that's the case, that makes it funny as hell... it's just written very cleverly. |
Garbage – Breaking Up The Girl Lyrics | 21 years ago |
I don't really like Garbage that much, but for some reason this song strikes a chord with me. It's told from the pov of someone who knows what's going on between some guy and a lady. The guy is a loser/not of the type for this particular girl that this guy is really interested in. However, he is pursuing him with a particular intensity and niceness, and the girl can't stand it because she feels bad for him, but she also doesn't want to go out with him... so going further is only going to cause a lot of crap for everyone. I don't think it's about a bad relationship or anything, because the song is said in such an admonishing tone that it seems like the speaker really has some sympathy for the guy... but he just needs to let it go. |
Blind Melon – No Rain Lyrics | 21 years ago |
It's kinda about being depressed. He's addressing someone in the lyrics, which some people seem to kinda discount a little bit, but it's important. I remember, not long ago, being really distraught about not being in a relationship with someone, and sort of dropping meloncholy comments towards my friends about this, in hopes they'd set me up with someone. Of course, this isn't the way to go about this, but -- I wasn't in my right mind. I was depressed. Worse yet, my friends would attack me, ("You don't like my point of view") and we'd have these stupid comversations about how inept I was when it came to going out there and finding someone. They all thought I was batshit insane, and that I needed help (I did), but I was having a hard time letting them know just how lonely I was. I think the song is addressed to some aquaintence with a similar relationship. It was aggrivating too, because, I didn't want sex like some of the more vocal people in my age group seem to want. I just wanted someone to be there, you know? Anyway, this song isn't profound in such a way that it's necissarily universally true -- but it's profound in that, emotionally, a lot of people probably feel this way sometime in their life. Everyone is around, but no one knows what to do. |
John Mayer – Your Body Is A Wonderland Lyrics | 21 years ago |
John Mayer is terrible, and so is this song. In the words of a friend of mine, "John Mayer is an acoustic pansy". I would also like to further amend to that by saying that, "He likes penis and little girls," however, I have no concrete proof of that. In all seriousness, though, this song HAS no meaning. For all its mysogenistic undertones, it could be very well about date rape (I actually have a detailed explination of this, but I'd rather not extrapolate on the song because it disgusts me). Please, if you like this song -- grow a brain and pursue other means of intellectual stimulation, for Music is probably not your forte when it comes to taste, and you are probably one of the many responsible for bringing down the medium. In conclusion, John Mayer is a newb. |
