what an awesome song. definintely one of my faves on out of the vein. i think stephan captures the feeling really well of spending time w/ someone you used to be with and being uncomfortable/not exactly sure how to act. as far as the icarus allusion, in the song he also says, "and i've fallen back to earth still you know i'll try again." and earlier in the song he says, "i didn't give up on you" (he will keep trying). the terms "blinded" and "staring down the sun" are obviously repeated throughout much of the song, so the icarus allusion fits. continuing this relationship (trying to fly to the sun) is dangerous in a sense, and he knows he may get "burned," (get too close and fall back) but he is obviously still strongly affected by this person and thinks it is worth it to keep trying...? |
