| O'brother – Oh, Charitable Thief Lyrics
| 13 years ago

It seems that he is at peace with God and is, therefore, ready to die and go to heaven. The instrumentation illustrates this as well. "Charitable Thief" may describe how God gives and takes life. A true work of art, both lyrically and musically, by a great band. |

| Thrice – The Flame Deluge Lyrics

My interpretation:
Death is supposed to motivate life because our natural death will eventually end our life. However, through war, mankind has instead used death as a tool to build up pride. Now God is furious at mankind for using his power of death. If it continues, then death will be cast upon the entire world.
In a way it is as though death is saying, "I did not want to do this, but by waging wars you made me use my power on the whole world."
Quite morbid, but I think that's part of Dustin's style... exposing the dark to praise the light. |

My interpretation:
It is important to learn that no matter how great I think I am, I am mortal and death is unconquerable. However, if there is love and faith, then life is worth living.
We are beggars all.. |

It's criticizing the American Dream. In reality, the American Dream is more of a nightmare. "All this could be yours someday" seems to have a sarcastic undertone to it. |

I think it's about how we waste the best years of our lives infront of the tv. Television numbs people hence "nothing sounds appealing". Tithe may refer to the time we waste and the gridlock refers to how television gets us nowhere yet so many people watch it. Menomena, to me, is almost a satire band that criticizes modern society. Five Little Rooms is a great example. |

Great song to listen to before surfing! About being over a relationship. The first chorus says "I won't wait around for your hearts to open, let us inside". The second is "I won't wait around for you heart to open and let me inside." |

I agree with the abusive father interpretation. It could also be about any authority figure that is responsible for caring for others such as priests, teachers, police, etc.
Instead of "But they only cause you fear..." I think it might actually be "but they only CONJURE fear..."
No biggie, just what I hear and makes perfect sense with the rest of the lyrics. |

| Menomena – The Pelican Lyrics
|
|
This is from two different points of view. The first verse is told from a fisherman who has his fish taken away by a pelican. The second verse is the point of view from a pelican that has had a fish taken away by a fisherman. The song expresses conflict and how there is always another side that feels it is justified. You can look at it as a relationship, dualing nations, or anything that experiences confrontation... or a fisherman and a bird. The third part is about when the two conflicting sides fight. The rest is about the resolution of the conflict and how it will all happen again. |

Nate, you shared wisdom with me, I then shared it with someone else, they shared it with another... that is how you affect something. That is how you are more than 1 in 6 billion. You rock, love the lyrics as much as the music! |

| The Judas Cradle – Swallowing The Lies Of Tradition Lyrics

What this song means to me is... too many wars are fought in the name of "God". Leaders of countries can't justify war on religion when it specifically says "thou shall not kill". I am not comletly sure on the exact beliefs of other religions, so this song, to me, seems to be aimed at christians.
Musically speaking, I love it as well. The quote at the end goes into the next song (3 words) perfectly! |

First song I heard by them and definetly not the last. The new cd is good, but I like "child actors" more. This song has a quote from Dogma in it also.
Religion is crap to me. I'm not saying if you believe in it then you are a horrible person, you have your beliefs just like I have mine. I'm just saying I think it is ridiculous. It is a basis for many (if not all) wars. |

I too agree with wildbill. I also made a slight connection with school. (through my experience) School is now pointless. It once was a wonderful thing to go and learn. Now everything we "learn" is just things we will forget the second we are through with that class. Many teachers at my school only teach for money (selling you out). I actually want to learn as much as I can about what I take interest in, but it is hard to when there is hardly a choice (all we're asking for is what's ours). I dunno, just saw an alternate meaning there. Great song also! |

Good song, lyrics seem to be straight forward, BUT there could be more to it. Don't bash on Adam when he is probably right. It was originally a pop song which usually are straight forward. Instead of criticizing him about his meaning make your own (which you failed to do). |

I agree with this song. The meaning is in parenthesis. Just before the song begins the track prior to this one (all that glitter is) ends with a quote from something I am not sure of, it says, "Your killing rock and Raping Roll."
Fuck your broken heart! - ha, Now that's rock and roll! |
