I love the drum line Janet lays down toward the end of the song, during the "1, 2, 3" lines. It's a total marching cadence, and I love how it evokes the image of faceless, uniformed people marching in time without any need for the lyrics that speak of the same sort of images. |

oh, terrel. world war two can't be blamed on the start of world war one. if we hadn't screwed germany so hard in the treaty of versailles after world war one, then world war two wouldn't have happened. admittedly, without world war one there would be no treaty of versailles, but there came another deciding poit then, where we could have prevented world war two. |

what made the clash last was their huge amount of talent. they didn't stay with "punk" style entirely because they could go beyond that. over the years, ska, reggae, soul, r&b, jazz, rap, funk, and even what you would call new wave joined their repertoire. not only did this show off their copious and diverse talents, but widely expanded their fanbase by inviting fans of all different styles to listen to their favored style, and then to everything else the clash could do. you can praise "old-school clash" all you want, but don't disregard the enormity of everything after. |

andaah, to clear things up on the girl, it is indeed jen. jen wood, not to be confused with jenny lewis (of rilo kiley) who provides backing vocals for all the other female parts on the album for anyone who was wondering.
this is definitely my favorite song on the album. if you like this type of song (girl & guy singing back at each other), i really recommend the pogues' "fairytale of new york." great song to get you in the christmas mood (of love, or asskicking, whatever). |

the title of the song comes from a show they were playing at a place called the glass house. the PA broke down, and while it was being repaired the guys just started jamming. the really nifty lead-in to the song is what they came up with while they were jamming. |
