| Screeching Weasel – I Wanna Be A Homosexual Lyrics | 20 years ago |
|
In response to poke_a_dot: The line "you're so full of shit why don't you admit you don't have the balls to be a queer" seems to be more in response to someone who is too frightened of the repercussions of identifying as homosexual (even though they may be to a degree). Despite the fact that this person "wears short shorts" and rubs themself when they see "studs in tight jeans" they are not identifying as homosexual because they're too frightened to. I don't think it's about someone that is pretending to be homosexual, I think it's about someone who is pretending to be heterosexual. |

I agree that we should support the troops (and try to get them back here as fast as possible) now that they're already there, but that doesn't mean we should ignore our conscience. i suggest that you read this article on TheOnion: http://www.theonion.com/onion3912/i_should_not_be.html wonderfully cynical and deeply insightful. as far as your implied comparison of Saddam Hussein to Adoplh Hitler, i'm afraid i don't see much comparison at all. Hitler had delusions of grandeur, he invaded and conquered about half of Europe for the love of god. Saddam has made no agressions in the last 10 years, we're jumping in here because the politicians who make the decisions (not to mention a good portion of this country) are suffering form paranoia. if Bush has done one thing for me through the course of his term he's convinced me that Michael Moore was closer to the truth than most of America would like to think when he produced "Bowling for Columbine." as for "how many people wud have been against WWII & the thought of getting rid of Hitler?" this country has a long and beautiful history of dissent, there were definetely those who thought we shouldn't be involved in WWII, including our own government until the bombing of Pearl Harbor forced us into it. my grandfather, for example, was a conscientous objector to the second world war. in closing: i think it's horrible that lives will be lost on both sides in this war. i believe that our country has been far to lenient with George Bush's administration. this war did not need to happen, nobody needed to die in this conflict. as for "what is their morale going to be like when they turn around and find their own country is against what they are risking their lives for?".... what ARE they risking their lives for? America needs to develop a critical mind, ask questions, don't accept what you hear on the radio or see on the television as truth, ask yourself: "Who wants me to be seeing this? What did they decide I shouldn't see?" perhaps you won't find the answers, but i think it's important to undersand the amazing amount of bias the media is capable of (especially in times of war). oh yes, and boycott fox news (; that is all... |

Alrighty, here's my own interpretation of the lyrics... i've taken some of the suggestions/lyrics on this page into account: I've got a book of matches I've got a can of kerosene I've got some bad ideas involving you and me I don't blame you for walking away I touch myself at thoughts of flames I sat in bed(?), I lay in bed ridden(?) thinking of you wide awake for days wide awake for days and i found you tongue tied in my twisted little brain you couldn't crack a smile i didn't catch your name i don't blame you for walking away i'd do the same if i saw me i swear it's not contagious in four short steps we can erase this chorus: step one: slit my throat step two: play in my blood step three: cover me in dirty sheets and run laughing out of the house step four: stop off at edgbure creek and rinse your crimson hands you took me hostage and made your demands i couldn't meet 'em so you cut off my fingers one by one one by one i'm like a broken record i've got a needle scratch in me it injects the poisons of alcohol IV* i don't blame you for walking away i'd do the same if i saw me i swear it's not contagious swear to god it's not contagious (chorus, substitute: "lake michigan" for "edgebure creek") This could be love (love for fire) This could be love (love for fire) This could be love for fire forever more (chorus, substitute: "berkeley marina" for "edgebure creek") *That's: it injects the poisons of alcohol 'eye-vee' not the roman numerals for 4, i'm not that much of a jackass (; IV stands for intravenously. that's hardcore stuff matt, god i love his lyrics. Secondly, i'm pretty damn sure it's berkeley marina, I lived in berkeley (SF East Bay for those of you who don't know) for many many years of my life and i know matt lived there for a bit too... on vagrant's website it says he makes a couple of "shout outs" to places he's lived in this song. As for that tricky sixth line, i'm not sure that i'm right, but i don't think anybody else has been either =o) Also: I've been working on Continental's lyrics, anybody have some of those for a little collaborative work? =o) I'll see if I can figure out Donner Party, Emma and 100 Stories too... but it might take a little while (; |

alright, i'm not sure where this debate has gone from the last post i bothered to read (somewhere around the end of jack-05 and BArcky's little dance), but i thought i'd throw in my two cents on the issue. i'm american, i don't support the war on terrorism nor the war on iraq. as far as i'm concerned the war on terrorism was a knee jerk reaction from an inadequate president who commited too early to military action. i think what happened on 9/11 was horrible. the sight of thousands of innocent people dying in the twisted wreckage of those buildings is an image i don't think any american will ever forget. however, i think it's important to consider the various perspectives one can have on the event. i'm not saying that al qaeda was justified, just that they must have had their reasons. america is by no means a perfect country, and i'm certain that we've made more than a few enemies in our various (and undoubtedly often illegal) international exploits. we've funded more than one coup de tat, more than one uprising and instituted more than one dictator. i believe it was the USA that provided iraq with the means to fight iran when they were the thorn in our side. as for the war in iraq: i'd like to start by saying that George W. Bush is a jackass. why are we in iraq? i haven't the faintest idea. the sorry excuse we have for news coverage has failed to convince me of a damn thing but George W. Bush's incompetency. "Operation Iraqi Freedom"? bullshit, there are countless oppressed peoples around the globe and we choose to do something at this particular time about this particular dictator? were we pulling names out of a hat or something? ...doubtful. furthermore, i am totally pissed off at Fox news right now for their ummm... interpretive... reporting of the war: "79% of Americans report that they are in favor of Iraq's Liberation..." Liberation? LIBER-FUCKING-ATION? first off, i wouldn't call it liberation, secondly if you ask anybody in this world if they're for the liberation of ANYTHING the majority will say yes. "are you for the liberation of small bottle backed beetles from the evil clutches of the greater american cuckoo?" damn right you are... ask america this and see what kind of a poll you end up with: "Are you for the mindless killing of hundreds, possibly thousands, of iraqi civilians, women and children for seemingly no reason?" i think the numbers will switch around good and damn fast then. mention the $75 BILLION dollar price tag President Jackass has slapped onto the war and then see if you don't get at least 80% of americans against this waste of resources, time and most importantly: human life. and what of these weapons of mass destruction? it seems that when president Bush decided that war on iraq was an essential cornerstone of his reelection campai...err...i mean of his never ending battle for world peace and harmony amongst peoples of all colors and creed, north korea's recent experiments in nuclear power/military grade nukes bowed out of the news spotlight... did we flip a coin or something? "What'll it be George? Iraq or North Korea, you can only have one..." for further biting cynicism i suggest that you read up at http://www.theonion.com (America's Finest News Sourceâ„¢), specifically this article. |

| Tiger Army – When Night Comes Down Lyrics | 23 years ago |
| I simply cannot express how frickin' awesome this song is. Quite possibly my favorite Tiger Army song. If you've heard it and weren't impressed then you need to give it another listen. | |
| Tiger Army – Annabel Lee Lyrics | 23 years ago |
| This is the song that got me hooked on Tiger Army. I downloaded it and simply had to buy Power of Moonlite The variety of the songs on the album caught me offguard, but I've come to love almost all of them. This was my favorite song for a while, but it got a little tiring. I just got their first album and with the influx of new Tiger Army material to listen to, I can't decide which song is my favorite. Nocturnal? True Romance? When Night Comes Down? Cupid's Victim? Under Saturn's Shadow? I can't make up my mind, and I love it! | |

This is probably my favortie Alkaline Trio song, at the moment at any rate (Jaked on Green Beers is vying for the spot). I can't get enough of it. I think my favorite part is: and we laid in my bed like a train wreck and we both got laid like concrete and we fought like soldiers but we died.. we died like flies Really great use of similes there (even if they are the poor man's metaphor), and it seems to just roll together so well. As far as the meaning, I think suicide makeover hit it pretty damn well. Seems like he hates the place this relationship has taken him to and hates the woman that took him there. He questions their love but, for some reason, can't bring himself to leave... or maybe he's trapped? Meh, whatever. |
