I know Freddy said that this song doesnt mean anything but I dont believe that. I do think pkjun's idea is a definite possibility but I have a different idea that I really believe is what its about. First of all, has anyone ever actually looked up Bohemian in the dictionary? Bohemian= a person with artistic or literary interests who disregards conventional standards of behavior Basically i think this song is all about nonconformity of artists, thus it is the 'rhapsody' of a Bohemian... i think maybe its irony that hes basically apologizing for going against society to follow his heart with his original but unconventional music or other work The part "Mama just killed a man" I interpreted as a metaphor for how 'sinful' his nonconformist actions are seen as by society And "Mama, life had just begun But now I've gone and thrown it all away" This is i think society saying that he threw his life away, wasting it on his unconventional hobby/job of writing music instead of entering the business world or something like that like society would say he should...because in this world most people just do what will make them the most money "Scar-a-mouche, Scar-a-mouche, Will you do the Fan-dan-go."--as shown in the definition above, a scaramouch is a "boastful coward" I think this represents the government or other authority, who boast their power and act tough by following society's path, but they are cowards because they just follow footsteps of other people because they don't have the courage to make their own path "Spare him his life from this monstrosity." --While the usual meaning of monstrosity is something very large, it can also mean "something deviating from the normal" (aka something unconventional...), and they are saying forgive this poor boy for speaking/acting his mind "Bielzebub has a devil put aside for me" basically again saying how sinful the society sees his unconventionality as Then "So you think you can stone me and spit in my eye. So you think you can love me and leave me to die. Oh, baby, Can't do this to me, baby"...i think this represents the actions of society, even his close friends and/or family, turning their backs on him because they care more about their reputations than they do about him, and they don't want to be looked down on for being on his side That's basically it... |
