I've always thought this was a cover too.. although the CD booklet assures me all songs were written by Meg + Jack. So in conclusion... [shrug] Also, Meg rocks and is wonderful and can do no wrong. [/obsessed fangirl] |

Okay, perhaps this is just me being really, *really* thick, but I don't understand what the hell Mary has to do with any of this. Who is she? Did the poor smart kid kill her before turning the gun on himself? That's how I understood it when I first heard this song, ut they only carry out *one* body in the video. Any suggestions, anybody? Help a confused girl out here! Aside from that, I really rather like this song. It carries such a poignant message, not just about the gun problem, but about the social divisions within high school, and the way people deal with their own emotions, which I think opens it up as much more than just a political message. In a way, too, I pity the smart boy more than Greg, because he felt so isolated, so alone, and I can kind of relate to that on a personal level, since all my friends left college last year, leaving me to have to re-establish myself in social circles. (Oh, and, before anybody takes that the wrong way, I'm *not* saying "oh, good, the popular jock kid got shot, serve him right for being so popular ha ha ha," I'm just saying I feel that smart boy was more of a victim, if only for the mental suffering that led him to kill himself. Does that make sense? What does anyody else think?) I have to say, I'm not usually into the whole Destiny's Child/Kelly Rowland thing, but I just found this song rather intriguing. It's a lovely change to have a pop song like this floating around with a bit of a deeper meaning to it, some kind of point other than "love is great/sucks/I'm over you now/I've never felt like this before" etc etc etc. You know the kind of stuff I'm talking about. ;) |
