There's nothing more rewarding than listening to this song late at night, alone. I always feel that Bob Dylan could have wrote this song it's so good. But then again, Ryan Adams is the modern (old) Dylan. |

lol manics american fans are few and far between, theres your special attention!
you could be right about it being a very personal rendition of their journey as a band actually. Orwell is mentioned and Orwell was an influence on their work throughout there career. and refers to 'Only sixteen years of age he said' which the manics lied about their ages when they were younger for performing reasons which i can not remember. and 'we've realised there's no going back' they started the band and they know what they have to do and as they gained popularity they realised they couldn't go back to what they used to be. Like you said we could be very wrong, but it's a pretty good explaination if i do say so myself! |

I think the line "They’re advertising in the skies, For people like us" means like how in some less fortunate countries they advertise things that they know people can't afford, and Bono is saying that they only advertise for people who are fortunate enough to be able to afford luxuries - i.e people like us. If that makes sense. |

This song is so nice. Its a song about laziness and how the 'boy' is struck dumb with love, meaning he's in love with being lazy... i think, maybe a bit too obvious. Someone once said to me this song was about me... what a compliment... it's still a fantastic song though. |

'We've realised there's no going back' makes me think that the Manics are trying saying to all the critics who think everything after the Holy Bible is shite that they're arn't going back to that phase and they it's in their past and they just want to do what they want.
i think this song is a perfect opener to Lifeblood too, just a bloody good song... plus it was my birthday too lol same as you matt. |

| Manic Street Preachers – Empty Souls Lyrics

The Lifeblood album is by far their best since Everything Must Go. I really like this song but i think i disagree with you on the twin towers line, i'm not offended by it or anything, but i feel like the Manics are trying too hard to be the Manics... if that makes sense... i.e they want to be the old Manics were they shocked people through their lyrics, i might be wrong though. It's the same with The Love Of Richard Nixon, perhaps trying to hard to be that band that politcally shocked people. But don't get me wrong, the Manics are still my favourite band, before someone tells me to piss off.
But on a more general thing, is it just me or is Lifeblood a very wintery album? Like i can imagine myself walking through a blizzard or something. Like the sparce piano on this song, the elegance of Live to fall Asleep, The cold driving guitars on To Repel Ghosts, The broken lyrics of A Song For Departure, The wishful lyrics of Solitude Sometimes Is, the funky bassline on Always/never... ok maybe i've went too far, but i think it's something to think about. |

Actually you're completely wrong about me, i find korn repulsive, i've never self-inflictated myself and I don't like pickles. My actual music preference is the likes of David Bowie, Velvet Underground, Franz Ferdinand, Bob Dylan, The Clash to name a few. you're obviously a good judge of character, no?
IT is a ballad but it's not a very good one, it's for american teens as i said before who think everyone's against them...
I won't even speculate what you're like, infact i will. You're probably a fat, smelly american, who can't move without using a large stick to flick you out of your manky chair. An un-educated oaf, who thinks star trek is the coolest tv show ever and will be made.
Poor judge of character and insulting? i very much doubt it.
p.s 'forever delayed' refers to a line taken from the song Roses In The Hospital by Manic Street Preachers. you should listen to it, although it is for more intelligent music fans and not for kids who listen to teenage american pop music because they don't know the whole alphabet.
so to you good luck 'BUDDY' |

I decided to listen to this song to see what all the fuss was about, as it is one of the most popular songs on songmeanings. and i wasn't impressed. it's very bland, it's too long, the singer sounds as if he's on the toliet, its mediocre lyrics and it's for american teenageers who think everyone in the world hates them, so they've got to listen to depressing music to cut themselves too. 9 minutes and 35 seconds of crap. |

Well anyway i know its about the Spanish Civil War, but to me its like you've done something wrong; however you are blind to see that. therefore, if you tolerate this then it will make others suffer. Children could be seen as everyone in the world, the worlds Children. |
