Modest Mouse – Trailer Trash Lyrics 22 years ago
Just an interesting note to hoorayforhumans' comments... I have a live album in which these lyrics are added to the end of the song:

spend most of ya life
looking for the adult you are
and you spend the rest of ya life
looking for the child you lost

Modest Mouse – The Waydown Lyrics 22 years ago
To me, its pretty obvious what this song is about, drug dealers and drug life. I really like the way they talk about gravity,
"and if you want them now you could just pull on the lever and say, "I'm hung up on gravity." "--- your hung-up on not being high.

Also, "and if you asked them how, they'd say gravity's how they got there"--- the characters in this song blame gravity (not being high, or the rest of the world outside of the subculture) for being what has brought them down, not the drugs or the subculture itself.

But really what I wanted to say, was what a good portrayal of drug culture this song is, it brings back a lot of memories of when I was in a similar position, and it really describes the whole situation well.

Modest Mouse – Lounge Lyrics 22 years ago
I like this song a lot too, it took me a lot of time to figure out what I think this song means, but really it wasnt the lyrics that finally communicated it but the music itself.
I think its about the emptyness two people can find in each other.
"He don't remember, how it got there
It had a number, written on his forearm
It spelled disaster"----- seems to me to be about a club kid, young, good looking, as much as i hate the term a "player". Hes got a girls number who he hardly knows, calls her up, they go out together, go to his car...
"She sat, she sat in the backseat
The car was plush but had no heat
And no not no one was blushing
Their technique was so damn right"---- nice car but no heat, a classic technique guys use. They have sex, empty, meaningless, solely on a physical level. Then the song slows down and it seems to communicate to me how empty the people feel afterwards and how empty their lives are.

Ugly Casanova – Parasites Lyrics 22 years ago
I really like this song, both by Modest Mouse and Ugly Casanova... it seems to me to communicate a bit of an existentialist outlook. "and all your thoughts, yeah, they rot." seems to say that it really doesnt matter what you think, or what you do, as you are going to die anyway. "we're all the punch line to the joke that they won't let us in on." seems to say that you really cant understand life or what is really happening. It might be very depressing to some people but I find it liberating... overall I think the song is saying you should enjoy life becuase its short and when you die, nothings going to matter anyway...

Modest Mouse – Dramamine Lyrics 23 years ago
Everytime I hear this song I get psuedo-flashbacks to Dramamine trips (NEVER TRY IT), it seems to me that the song is comparing a Dramamine trip (NEVER EVER TRY IT) to a relationship. A lot of the lyrics he uses in the song describes a Dramamine trip well:

"Feeling spaced breathing out listerine
I'd said what I'd said that I'd tell ya"

"I've said what I'd said and you know what I mean
But I still can't focus on anything"

Those lyrics describe perfectly what a Dramamine trip is like, you can't focus, you get paranoid, and you have your own alternate reality and get pissed at people for not understanding it. I think the song is relating this experience in some ways to a relationship--a lack of understanding, an inability to focus, being pissed for someone not understanding. Final thoughts: Never ever, ever take Dramamine for the purpose of getting high, it really, really fucks with your head and makes you dumb.

Modest Mouse – Summer Lyrics 23 years ago
I believe this is one of the best songs about summer: it deals with love, parties, and sunny afternoon shit to do.

"1996 1997 1998 we're all waiting for the year 2000" I love that line, even though its now 2003 because that is how I always feel during summer, excited--waiting for something big to happen.

"just the smell on the summer can make me fall in love"
ditto to the other post, summer's like that, it's something in the air, its the best, or perhaps the only time to fall in love

"we go to the parties listen to the DJ's
dance dance dance and go crazy"
Everytime I hear these lyrics it brings back memories of my senior year summer, going to parties, all your friends there, drinking, being free.

"hold the slip slide taste the sweat it's salty
irrigation ditch and a swimming hole"
These are summer afternoons, one of the things that make life worth living--chilling, swimming, smoking buds.

Great song, one I think many Modest Mouse fans overlook to often, one of my favorites.
