Jethro Tull – A New Day Yesterday Lyrics 19 years ago
THANX SO MUCH 4 ADDING 2 HIS GENIUS W/YR STUPID I/NET SLANG!!!!! HAFORLLOL!

Anyway, on a serious note... I don't know the history behind this song, but it just seems to me about recounting memories. Perhaps of Glory. This might be an anthemic attempt at uplifting England.

This band always had diamonds in their eyes...Especially in their youth.

This song seems to be about trying to ascend in the Church of England. Seems to talk about making money and giving it to the church to gain rank
instead of giving it to the people who need it. It's almost saying the church is a pyramid scheme.

God's waiter is your preacher, your priest. The bill is the Tithe, or, a tenth of your earnings minimum. The more you give, the better you are in the Church's eyes.

At least that's what I see.

Jethro Tull – Wond'ring Aloud Lyrics 19 years ago
I believe this song is about giving to your lover everything. He describes, to me at least, him performing oral sex on her. But it's not supposed to be raunchy or dirty... An expression of love.

"Wond'ring Aloud, how we feel today" to me is a description of the sounds of pleasure partners omit.

"I'm tasting the smell of toast as the butter runs, then she cums, spilling crumbs on the bed, and I shake my head."

....Just use your imagination.

Yep, there it is.

Red Hot Chili Peppers – Death of a Martian Lyrics 19 years ago
Does anyone see a similarity to Cedric Bixler's (Of The Mars Volta) lyrical stylings in the outro? John became good friends with Omar around '01.... And De Facto (Omar, Cedric, Ikey, and the Late Jeremy Ward's dub band) opened for Frusciante's solo shows. RHCP quickly befriended Volta... Frusciante plays a solo on Cicatriz, and Flea plays bass for the album, and trumpet for their second album. Anyway, RHCP and MV have toured twice together, and I can see a giant influence by MV on that outro. And that's not a band thing. It's good to see such things in my view. Like bees pollenating different flowers, this is a beautiful example of how influence inspires the music world. Excellent song.

R.I.P. Martian.

Elliott Smith – A Fond Farewell Lyrics 20 years ago
To me, this song is about saying bye to heroin before he commited suicide. If he was murdered, she beat him to the punch. That's all I can say.

Elliott Smith – Happiness/The Gondola Man Lyrics 20 years ago
I'm unclear to what this song is really about. All I can tell you is that a week and a half or so after his death there was a show he was supposed to attend. All Tomorrow's Parties:West... Lots of artists were there. But his band played his set and Lou Barlow (Sebadoh, Dinosaur Jr.) sang the lyrics. This was the last song that was played. About 30-40 of Elliott's closest friends and family joined hands on stage, cried, and recited "And all I want now is happiness for you and me." Perhaps you can't rule out suicide.. But I have no clue in all honesty.

Bob Dylan – Like a Rolling Stone Lyrics 20 years ago
I personally believe this song is about an upper-middle class girl. She hated the establishment. She fell deeply in love with the Hippy Movement. Moved out to the Haeght or something to become part of the scene... She got there, and, got sacked by reality.. She became homeless. She couldn't eat.. So she became a simple street prostitute...
"You never turned around to see the frowns on the jugglers and the clowns
When they all come down and did tricks for you"
Come on. It mentions her turning..around to see what? the frowns on jugglers and clowns. What are they know for? Tricks. She's turning tricks. They frown, cuz they're the wrong kind.. But then they turn one on her.
This is even more telling:
"You used to be so amused
At Napoleon in rags and the language that he used
Go to him now, he calls you, you can't refuse
When you got nothing, you got nothing to lose
You're invisible now, you got no secrets to conceal."

To me this verse speaks about thinking lightly about pimps. Everyone does it. Pimps, especially in the 60's speak/spoke Jive. But now that she has nothing, she has nothing to lose..(Dignity) She's invisible because she's no longer a member of "functioning" society.
Anyway.. That's my two cents.. Or the dime I throw to you bums in my prime.

The Mars Volta – Eunuch Provocateur Lyrics 23 years ago
The Mars Volta is far better than Sparta. Jim Ward is a little girl! Look at him in any ATDI videos, he's got the least emotion! Sparta isn't riding off the fame of ATDI? Listen to Hourglass on In/Casino/Out and tell me that doesn't sound exactly like something Sparta would write. Then listen to ANY At The Drive-In song and compare it ANY Mars Volta song. Sparta sucks. HAIL MARS VOLTA
