Great song. One of their best, in my opinion. I don't think it's about a nightmare or about life, and I really don't see how it could be about intercourse. I'm not positive, but I think it's about a guy who's dying. Reason: The lines "I feel it washing over me/The slow poisonous tide" make it sound as though he is becoming seriously ill. Then, his condition gets worse. "Pins and needles dance on me/Sickness undefined" sounds as though he is losing feeling in his body due to an unknown illness. You know that feeling you get when your leg is going numb; it feels just like being poked by needles, doesn't it? Next, the lines "Between a dream and motionless reality/Will I forever lie?" make it sound like he has gone into a coma, especially with the "Please let them waken me" part. As the song further progresses, his condition becomes even worse: "I feel it gnawing, eating me/Poisonous and slow." Then the song changes a bit and the music dies down a little, sounding less active. It's could symbolize that his body is shutting down and he is close to his imminent death. I could be wrong, but that doesn't matter. It's a great song, no matter what it's about. |
