John Mayer – Something's Missing Lyrics 22 years ago
The human condition. Our brains are perfectly evolved to find the problem and fix it. When we have no problems, it will just make them up. We can't ever be happy. We can only try to be.

Dishwalla – Counting Blue Cars Lyrics 23 years ago
I think LazyForeLife is closest, but I think the boy is himself and the day represents his life journey trying to understand God and at the end of the day he'll die and meet God. I think the footsteps being loud means that our actions in life effect those around us and that life is meaningful.

Cake – The Distance Lyrics 23 years ago
Yeah, I think it's the rat race one. I played this song when my husband was at basic training. I'd imagine him off working hard while I waited at home for him. I thought it was particularly fitting since he was a little slow on his runs at first. I just ignored the memory fading part.

But, if it's about sex then the guy is impotent since there's no trophy, no flowers, no flashbulbs, no wine.

Cake – Frank Sinatra Lyrics 23 years ago
I think the song is about an old man sitting in a room alone listening to old records while the rest of life passes by without him. The imagery of cobwebs, dismembered, and haunts, etc. makes me feel that the old man has died and the singer is in his room soon after his death imaging the old man still there. Maybe he's even going through Grandpa’s stuff after he’s passed since it says, "he saves what others throw away?" Just my interpretation.

Cake – Sheep Go To Heaven Lyrics 23 years ago
I think the song is about life, death, religion, and inspiration. When the song starts the singer is uninspired. He’s thinking about how life just ends in death. You might find some comfort in religion, but I don’t think the singer does. Instead the singer plays his PanPipes and gets inspiration from just enjoying the simple things in life like wine. I think it is a reference to Pan the half-human half-goat god who fell in love with the water nymph Syrinx. When he tried to catch her she escaped into the river and was changed into a stand of reeds. Pan took the reeds and made PanPipes, which he played to console himself. So, you could interpret that part of song as a girl who got away inspiring music. Pan is also associated with hedonism. So I think he is choosing to enjoy live and get inspiration from human things and go to hell with the cloven hoofed goats instead of heaven with the rest of the sheep. I could be wrong since I don’t understand the barber or Sunset Strip parts.
