Maybe it's just me.. but when I hear this song.. and REALLY listen to the words.. it makes me think it's about losing his virginity to a girl who's really not all that into it. "staring at the sky said when will he be done" "wait til I hit the ground harder" "don't want to be the last one *home*" I dunno.. maybe it's just me.. but I get a double meaning from a LOT of their songs. Not saying it IS.. but it's funny to think about.. |

I love how when a band's influences include punk bands, they get labeled a punk band (punk, pop punk.. whatEVER). I went through my stage where I lost all respect for Sum after I found out how they got signed (their demo couldn't cut it so they sent videos of them.. well, being them, out and that got them signed..) They may have gotten signed because they had the "right look" for where mainstream was headed (pop punk trend), but they also are LARGELY influenced by metal. Their newest album is, in my opinion, great. They were obviously given a lot more freedom to make it THEIRS and it shows. I don't think I'd really call them a punk band so much as a rock band. Rock is a pretty broad genre and Sum41 takes in a lot of aspects with their songs, drawing from punk, metal, rap and rock. Anyway, that's just my two cents on the band.. I've seen them live twice (once in an arena as part of a festival, and once in a smaller venue) and both times they rocked out. They get the crowd involved and keep them interested.. if you're not into them, it's really quite simple, don't listen. |

To me, this song isn't neccessarily about his best friend or anything. Naturally, when you're with someone for a while, they become a close friend as well as companion. Sometimes relationships come to a point where, no matter how much the two love each other, they just have to realize it's not working. "Our conversation can't consist of hello and goodbye, and the silence between saying I love you" It sounds like even though they love each other, they have nothing left to say to each other.. which is always a hard thing to admit. But sometimes it's better to call it quits than kill it even more, even if you still love each other. It's a tortured song in my opinion. The lyrics and music are great. Anyway, if you like this song, check out Lonely September by Plain White T's.. they're incredible. |

This song is amazing and it just reminds me so much of my one ex (first boy I ever loved and all that blah-y nonsense). It sucks when you realize that you've fallen in love beyond your control, and then one day it just gets ripped away for whatever reason. No matter how many times you (both) try to fix things.. eventually you just have to realize it's not going to work and that moment just sucks beyond belief. I think after a while you try to think of all the possible reasons why it went wrong.. one of which being you met too early in life ("I didn't mean to meet you then, when we were just kids") and.. yeah. It's just a really great song, lyrics and musicwise. |

A friend of mine sent me their CD and it was just amazing. In one week I've gotten every member of my family (tastes ranging from nirvana to the beatles to avril *shudder* to dmx and king crimson) hooked on it. I agree with bigfatqueer, those lines just made me.. yeah. I was trying to figure out who it's about, I don't know much about the band yet but it sounds as though he's singing about his father. Either way, it's a great song and they're a great band. |
