i heard this version before i heard rancid's version, and personally i like nofx's better. just cause i like their style better i guess. but i thought it was pretty damn cool that they really made the cover their own by making it so different. byo splits are fun. |

I love this song because I think the lyrics are really true....so many people get completely obsessed over the first person they date, and you have to realize that when you're young it more likely than not will not last forever. but I have to say that even though we broke up, I was "so in love" with the first person I was ever with. because that's just how i am. i'll always love him, but i still have to "keep my eyes open" because it was young love and i have more ahead of me. as much as highschool romance sucks...you gotta love it. or i do anyways cause i'm a sap like that |

my absolute favorite line from this song, or from any other song, is: "when happiness is based on lies it's so hard to tell the truth." that is the truest thing i have ever heard, i LOVE that quote. this is one of my all time favorite songs. i take a personal meaning to it, for me it is actually about sex and how that's all guys care about. some guys anyways, like my ex boyfriend for example. "so what makes you play this game with results always the same and nothing but bad reputations to gain?" why do you lead people on like that? it always turns out the same way. there's nothing to gain from that crap except for a bad reputation for yourself. you're just making it harder for you to "get some" by making it obvious that that's all you care about.
"what do you see when you look at me? do you take me for a fool? this fool is through!" do you think i'm an idiot? it's obvious you're just using me and i'm not going to put up with this crap anymore. SCREW YOU!
yeah i'm a geek but that's why i love tsl because i can always relate to their songs in some way. even if that's not the meaning they intended the song to have that's what it means to me and i love this song. |

this is my favorite song right now. like everyone else said i absolutely love the line "it's better to have lost love than paint a smile and pretend." i disagree with ThisIsMe727 cause I think this line is saying that he's glad he has the memories of her, and even though it sucks that he lost her he's glad that they got to be together. i can totally relate to that, although it took me a long time after the break up to be able to appreciate the good times in the relationship and not resent him for breaking up with me. change the he's to she's and i can relate to this too: "She loves you? Who loves you more to let you go?" because I realized that it was the right thing for us to break up and a part of me will always love him so much. i've seen all these new girls he's dated, one in particular who rants and raves about how much she loves him (even though they're not dating anymore) and it just makes me wonder....she'll never love him like i did. nobody ever will. |

i love the story behind this song. i think it kind of takes away from it that the purity knight story is fake, i was so disappointed when i found out. it's still creepy though if you go to that website...seriously, whoever made up all that shit has too much time on their hands. it's scary even if it's not a real crime because someone was still twisted enough to come up with that whole story. |

i think it's great that billy joe armstrong co-wrote this song. that gives me a reason to laugh in the faces of my stupid wannabe-punk-rock-elitist friends who trash on me for liking blink and all that "pop shit." they think it makes them cool to hate on my bands but in reality rancid are friends with blink and nfg (tim and brody are in one of new found glory's music videos, and tim and travis from blink have their own band together now) but enough about that crap. this song kicks ass, i love nofx's version too i think it's cool how they made it completely different. |

this song is on the album 45 or 46 Songs That Weren't Good Enough to Go on Our Other Records. it's a cover and it was originally written by Don McLean (same guy who wrote American Pie about Buddy Holly) and it's about Vincent Van Gogh. you've all seen the starry night painting and you should know who vincent van gogh is. anyway, everyone should go buy the above mentioned CD, it's worth it just to read all the crap fat mike wrote about all the songs. hilarious. and i think nofx did a really good job with this cover although they left out a whole verse, who knows why |
