i have to say... i really didn't like bjork before i saw this movie. now - i'm just in awe. no movie has ever effected me as much as 'Dancer in the Dark' has. and i do love the lyrics that she never gets to sing.... |

GAH!!! it's not about suicide!!! it's about CONTEMPLATING suicide... but he doesn't do it in the end. the end of the song gives hope for redemption and forgiveness. he doesn't kill himself in the end because he doesn't want his niece to not have her follow because his brother says: "if you go, soon i will follow." his salvation DID come in the end. so no -- you're all wrong. it's happy and hopeful in the end! don't all be such depressing 'emo' kids. |

1) i like how the mistake is contrived and obvious
2) i do have my theories about conor's sexuality -- but they in no way affect the way that i listen to his music. and my "theory" certainly isn't based on immature, homophobic things that i twist around and take out of his songs.
3) i think this is one of the best songs off this album. he really executes this song well. |

"Connor: No, I hate it when people look at me, I get nauseous. In fact, I could care less what people think about me. Do you feel that?"
you for got to add this part: he asks the radio dude "do you wanna dance?" it's so friggin hilarious.
the other best part of this song is: "it's like... walking through a door to discover it's a window..." haha... it's so great, it gets me everytime. |

| Bright Eyes – A Perfect Sonnet Lyrics

|
"now i believe that lovers should be draped in flowers
and layed entwined together on a bed of clover
and left there to sleep
left there to dream of their happiness"
i can't tell if that is the most depressing line of the whole entire song or if it is the last glimmer of hope... |

"And the two shall become..."
haha... i'm sorry. this part just reminds me of that Spice Girl's song -- "when two become one". sorry... that is the first and last unintelligent comment i will make about a mineral song, i just had to say it, haha. |

i have to say though -- this is the only song on "the power of failing" that i usually skip. i mean... there's only that many lyrics [see above :)]... and it takes up almost 7 minutes. this one's just a bit TOO mellow for me. |

you know... cause it's mineral... i can see why you could think that, about the whole God thing. But something tells me that this song is not about God -- I really want to believe that this song could be describing the love a man has for a woman. I want to believe that it could be true and that beautiful. |

i think it's about god. i wouldn't except for the first verse -- "he is risen" blah blah blah. you know how it goes :-)
but yes... completely emotional and beautiful. |

| Mineral – Five, Eight, and Ten Lyrics

as much as i think a lot of the time mineral is a "christian band", i think that simpson question's God just as much in his songs as he praises him. I do think it is kind of a commentary on the church and how sometimes people look down on you for not living perfect christian lives. mainly -- i think that this song is a struggle between believing in God and believing in the institution of religion.
however -- i do think you could take the religious references out of the song and just take it as society looking down on people and every decision they make. |

ok, i'm a christian -- but i'm not an avid christian. how can you not see that this song could possibly be about christ?

that last verse... wow. just... wow. i think simpson is pretty much my inspiration for the way i've chosen to live my life. he really influences my style of writing as well. i once wished i could write as beautifully as he did -- and have started writing more and more with him in mind. sure enough, i've gotten better and better. i'll never reach the level of mineral, but hey -- a girl can always wish, can't she? |

i usually hate this band... or i used to. i used to think they fell into the generic, pop-punk label that is attached to most drive-thru bands. and i think that they DID used to fit into that category. but i will be the first to admit that i love this song and i think it shows a huge step in the right direction for finch. it actually makes me want to buy the cd. it's nice to see a band getting better and better for a change - as opposed to worse and worse. |

why must we label things as "christian" simply because they have biblical references? in my opinion... it ruins the band sometimes because you over analyze every song and turn it into a reference to god. but that is just my opinion.
and wow... mineral has been getting a lot of love on this site lately -- 4 posts in less than 10 days? pretty impressive for this band. hehe. i really love this band loads. they are just one of those bands that writes... *poetry*. i wish they were stilll around. |
