The song is about death, it then eludes to the future of the human race, but the whole song is about death. And "supposely" jim was listening to early doors cds when he died and "The End" was at the end of the tape, and he died listening to "The End" but its a rumor, not sure if its too true.

Because Jim wanted to be the Door inbetween the known and the unknown, found in the book The Doors of Perception. Anyway its about breaking through out of this world into the unknown
