yeah... i think miss chainsaw is right! i think this song is about geoff leaving his home and the "you" are actually his parents. maybe geoff had problems with them and so he had to leave home and then he realizes that it's not that easy to live your own life. i think i finally get the beginning of the song... i mean it could be his parents driving home from a visit at geoff's house or apartment... anyway GREAT SONG! and i think you have to listen to it with the introduction - it's just amazing!!! |

"kopfschuss" means "headshot"... i'm too lazy to translate the whole song but i'll translate the chorus:
"headshot - this was no suicide, this was murder. headshot - you've been lying since the first word. headshot - it was a terrible, the opposite of brave(...sorry i don't know the english word right now) murder. headshot - and i don't believe a single word you're saying."

relationship? i think if you put all the stories in the songbook together you know what the song is about! geoff was a witness of the tragedy (child falling from 5th floor) and the whole year was very strange... they had problems with one another in the band (i think tom writes about this...) and well maybe it's also a bit about geoff's problem with his girlfriend... i think if you read the booklet it's clear! it's all about a frustrating year... |

didn't anyone notice that in the cd booklet it says: "to what end (exposing the naturalistic worldview)"...
as far as i know naturalism is all about: everything can be proved, the human body works because of chemical reactions, science can explain certain things....
and so i guess dustin wants to question that point of view! he doesn't believe that chemical reactions can 'cause such strong emotions as hate, love etc. well somehow i agree 'cause i think the way the human body works and the way you feel are two different things (everyone feels different and you can't really explain feelings)! i like that idea... i'm an atheist but in terms of human beings i agree that there has to be some kind of soul or whatever 'cause who tells me how hate or love feels like???? |

i think what joey means with "we're dead by thirty" is that when people turn thirty they're still alive but it wouldn't matter if they were dead 'cause all they do is hang around, watch tv, work... they don't have a real life anymore! i think this song is in general about society... people are greedy, all they do is try to earn as much money as possible. and i think "i was raised in a tragedy by slaves" means that his parents (as well as all the other grown up workers) are slaves to the state... they do what laws, politicians etc. tell them to do! and the kids get really depressed 'cause they don't wanna end this way... so they take drugs or they're bored and lazy!... that's what the song means to me... thanks for reading! |

i read an interview where geoff said that this song is about the same topic as porcelain (=his friend that comitted suicide)... and the only thing left to remind him of his friend is his camera... and so the camera is kind of a symbol for his friendship 'cause geoff is not a real photo expert but the camera reminds him of his friend! that's what i read! |

"in this city streets i hide my face i turn away when you look at me and every night when i try to sleep i feel your hands all over my body!" everything in this town reminds him of her... he even thinks that she's looking at him and he can't take it to walk on the streets where his girlfriend was rapped... oh my god this song is so intensive!!!! right now while i'm writing this i realize how terrible it had to be for geoff to live in new brunswick... so sad... |

on the one hand i think this song is about a broken relationship, and he sings about the girl that probably left him... and now he talks about how much she hurt him and that he wants her to die...BUT on the other hand it could also be about a friendship that ended! 'cause i don't think that matt was together with a girl for 9 years (!!!!) |

i read a book that dealt with eyes as a symbol for your own identity or personality (you know...the way you see things/the way you experience things) and i think cross out the eyes could mean : loss of identity/personality ! i think it could be possible 'cause geoff always "hides" the meaning very well so that it's nearly impossible to figure out what his songs are about. ...you have to be geoff so that it all makes sense ' cause i think he always writes a lot about personnel experiences and no one knows what certain things/places/emotions/peole/symbols meant to him while making the experience or whatever (except himself) |

Hey! i really love this song, it's great... but the comments so far don't really try to interpret it, well however i'll take a shot!
i really like the part: " maybe i can piece together 5 cold days in late december stories of a monster swallowed in a snow-covered lake tahoe...
and i think these lines are the key to the song! to me it means that this allison probably killed sommeone (maybe her husband) that treated her really bad ("monster swallowed") by making him/her walk on the frozen lake towards a region where the ice is thin and then he/ she drowns... it's like in the movie DOLORES! maybe i'm wrong but i like that idea! |
