| Wolf Parade – I'll Believe in Anything Lyrics

'And I could take another hit for you
And I could take away your trips from you
And I could take away the salt from your eyes
And take away the spitting salt in you'
I always heard that last pair of lines saying...
'And I could take away the salt from your eyes
And take away what's been assaulting you'
..and y'know, even now when I go back and listen to it again, I still hear it that way.
To be honest, I even like it better than the other interpretations. It's a clever little play on words stuck in the middle of this crucial moment musically and lyrically for the song. Krug does that sort of thing a lot, mixing puns or turns of phrase that are almost goofy within his more intense imagery. |

| Belle & Sebastian – Piazza, New York Catcher Lyrics

I'm pretty sure five_to_one nailed it on the head when he said the statue they speak of is probably that of Willy Mays, outside the San Francisco Giants stadium. It not only fits the setting of the song, but the band hints at it with a clever turn of phrase when they speak of the statue in the second verse,
'We hung about the tenderloin and tenderly you tell, About the saddest ending of a book you ever read, It always makes you cry, The statue's crying too and well he may.'
The way that Stuart sings that very last line he pulls those last three words, 'well he may' in together very tightly, making the phrase sound very much like the name Willy Mays. It's fairly subtle wordplay but exactly the sort of thing that makes Belle and Sebastian lyrics so much fun to listen to. |

| Belle & Sebastian – A Century of Elvis Lyrics

If you listen very carefully to the words it appears that the band is very clever in the way they portry the Elvis character. 'Elvis' shows signs of being the dead entertainer in hiding, but when you look at it from a different angle that maybe 'Elvis' is just a stray dog that lives in their neighbourhood who visits them. He never speaks. Comes by every night. Likes squirrels. It's just a cute little song. That sort of makes you want to laugh, sort of makes you want to cry. |

'A lady stepping from the songs we love until this day, You'd settle for an epitaph like "Walk Away, Renee".'
"Walk Away, Renee" is a fairly famous song by a pop band called The Left Banke in the 60's. The songwriter, and the driving force behind the band.....can't quite recall his name, anyways he was a bit of a tragic figure, a sort of mad pop genius. Wrote the song when he was very young, around 16 I believe, about a girl who had no interest in him. She also happened to be one of his bandmates girlfriends and when his infatuation came to light it signalled the beginning of his downward spiral. Just an interesting little reference. |

| The Zombies – She's Not There Lyrics

Seems a lot like when he refers to her not being there, hes not only talking about her physically not being around but also a sort of detachment she has from the world. The chorus really exudes that point, as he talks about her physical beauty and soft voice, but resounds in the fact that shes not really there, that her heart just isn't in a good place. He is obviosuly still very hung up on her, but does seem regretful for ever getting involved with her. Very good song from one of the best band of the 60's. |

A Perfect song to lift you up in the wake of a fallen relationship, its optimistic yet reluctant to leave what was once had, Great lyrical and in its simplicity is where it finds its audience. I think its a great track from a great Arizona band. |

What an incredible song. God I can't believe these guys came from my hometown. If ever you get a chance to see The Weakerthans or anyone else of the G7 Welcoming Committee label jump on it. Fantastic music spills from these guys and everyone thier involved with. Nothing especially talented in the way they play, its just the honesty of it all. |

In my opinion one of the most under-rated bands in North America. Fantastic lyrics! Absolute classic lines in early every song. I love the line that says, I'm unconsolled, I'm lonely, I'm so much better than I used to be. It's not gloomy at all, in fact its all about optimsm for the future. Great band, Winnipeg owns! |

The best out of a pack of good bands to spring from Sweden in the last few years. Division is light years ahead of thier countrymen musiclly. The energy of the album helps it transcend one damn genre and makes it own identity. A must buy, i mean you juts have to support these guys. |

failurexdesign nailed it, the song is definatly about problems the lead singer has with his family, specifically his father as its pretty well known that him and his dad have an estranged relationship. seen in such songs as Better Half and Overdue. Great Song and it can mean whatever you wnat it to really as long as you get soemthing out of it. |

| Jimmy Eat World – For Me This Is Heaven Lyrics

The song is turly one of the best off Clarity and in my opinion sums up what the band was trying to accomplish with the album musically as well as lyrically. This is song to me does seem like its written about a breakup but I get the feeling that its what Jim is feeling the night this girl break it off with him. He's been trying to figure out ways to fix the relationship because he cares about her deeply ( his great plans ) but all he can do is wait for her to respond because in the end its up to her. She tells him " if I don't let myself be happy now then when?" and Jim repeats the words to himself, realizing they apply to his life as well. Then he brings up all the times they"ve had, he remembers the magic they used to share and the last time he kissed her goodbye, but in the end theres nothing he can do and the song fades into a close with soft piano, but not before Jim sings " close my eyes, and believe wherever you are angel for me. " he still cares about her deeply but knows its over. Beautiful song. |

| Jimmy Eat World – Thinking, That's All Lyrics

This song seems a little more vague than most Jimmy Eat World songs, and thats saying something. To me it just seems about forgetting whats happened in the past and coming to terms with it. He talks about smoothing the sheets so no one knows, and turning back the clock. He seems angry about what happened but is ready to just forget the whole thing and move on. So much anger and desperation in Jim's voice when he sings this its amazing. Great song to open one of the best albums of all time. And does anyone know if thats Tom screaming in the back or what, cause it sounds perfect for the song. |

| Jimmy Eat World – Table For Glasses Lyrics

This song is all about reflecting on the past for me. Jim is sitting on the stairs outside his ex's apartment remembering all the times they had together. He's not sure whether to regret what went wrong or to just be happy they had that time. He's all alone and thats the way he wants to stay for awhile. "Sweep the dirty stairs, the ones I waited on. This is just for me. I felt it watching her." This song in my opinion is Jim's embodiment of the confusion after a relationship ends but still coming to terms with it and just being happy in your life. |

In my opinion this song is both about an addiction and a relationship. The relationship between the two people is what has them addicted and is the poison Jim's sings about. Both of them are trying to be strong for the toher one and deep down they both know it isn't working but can't find a way to break the cycle. Thier need for eachother is thier weakness but as he says they keep coming back for another drink. I could be wrong but I just get that feeling. Especially when Jim says its his own advice he needs. He knows what the right thing is too do but just can't make it happen. Brilliant song either way. |

| Jimmy Eat World – Digits Lyrics

This song is possibly the high point of anything Jimmy Eat World has down muscially speaking, the opening for some reason reminds me of a subway station at night with the heavy bass and just the vibe it gives off, its then followed by a lighter guitar piece that erupts into Jim screaming " Pay Attention!!!!, stop paying for your regret!" the songs is almost like coming out of the darkness for me. It starts in the dark, subways station and seems like Jim reaches an epifany as he sings, from this we end up in a comfortable place with crickets chirping all around you. Its and extremely engulfing song with pure emotion running through every note and too me its all about learning not to dwell in the past and learning just to be happy. |

To me this song besides being extremely well written and just plain beautiful holds a lot of memory. The song seems to be about the day he first asked a girl to start a relationship with him. He's in a daze and just in an almost euphoric state. Everything just seems to perfect to him. He's so eager to make her happy and to see just where this will go. Great song. |

| The Lyndsay Diaries – The Magic in the Number 19 Lyrics

This song stuck a cord with me the first time I listened to it. Everything written by Scott Windsor has that affect but this was different. This is the kind of song everyone and anyone can listen to and remember back to that time in their life where they lost someone who just stopped feeling for them. I love ending, " I know you would give everything if you could. But it is just not enough to be told the words, "Everything will be okay." Can I just
break down and fall into your arms?"... thats classic, amazing song. |

This song is perfect for Static Prevails to end on, its emotional and calm at the same time and just plain amazing. My favorite part is when Jim starts to yell "Alone I'm outside...", that whole verse blows me away. When I hear this song it seems more like there are two sides to it. There is one side that sing, " Don't leave without..." and another that sings " My minds made up..." I get the feeling this was written when Jim or Tom was getting ready to leave Mesa, AZ for the first time long term. He's outside seeing all the beauty of Arizona, all the things he maybe took for granted while living there. It ends with him remembering all the good times hes had there and closes perfectly. Great Song |

| Jimmy Eat World – Episode IV Lyrics

Episode IV is one of my favorites from Static Prevails for sure. Its pure emotion, but it doesn't follow suit with the rest of the album, and as much as I love the bare energy that the rest of static prevails offers this song is truly captivating in its intricacy and lyrics. The song seems to be about a night that either Tom or Jim or whoever spent with a girl they cared deeply about. I draw that mostly from the lines," swimming pools which keep us warm" and " cleaned the sand from off our feet ", in the desert it cools off fast at night but swimming pools retain the heat longer and for Tom it seems, him and this girl found refuge from the cold during this one special night they shared, this song is just the perfect inbodiment of teenage love in Arizona. |

| Go Big Casino – So Proud of You Lyrics

I love this song, Go Big Casino brings everything that Jimmy eat World does with a lo-fi feel to it. The song, like everything written by these guys, is subject to interpretation, but from Jim and Tom's view it seems like this was a girl who they had a relationship end with because of the strain of being in a band and on the road so often, if you look at the lyrics " shes out there in an ordinary life " " took everything she had " I just get that feel, and I can imagine it would be a huge problem for the guys to deal with. Great Song no matter how you look at it though. |
