it's more than just love, it's wanting to protect... the speaker wants to keep everything perfect and safe for the person he loves, and when he realizes that he finally can't have a hand in every aspect of this person's life he wants to take them away from everything, and start all over so that he can build a whole new life in just the right way, so that the person he loves can always be protected and happy. the end of the song makes it much sweeter, much more thoughtful and in-depth, than it would have been if he'd just kept saying "i want to be a part of everything in your life" over and over again |

duh. green like teenage lovers between the sheets = inexperienced, not sick. he isn't talking about actually flying, he's comparing the sensation of take-off to the beginning of a relationship, "recycled air" = emotions he has felt before, in other relationships. what he is feeling in this new relationship is exciting and scary and in order to keep himself calm, possibly to avoid being hurt, he's telling himself that it's nothing new, just the recycling of past experiences - stale air |

jeeeeesus, no comments yet? such a beautiful song... my take on it is being on the verge of leaving, and at first being bitter towards someone - probably an ex-girlfriend, or the girl (space) friend who the narrator always "loved" - then realizing that when it comes down to it, being bitter isn't going to solve anything, and the narrator just gives in and asks the girl not to let him leave...and all of this happens in his head, of course, he never actually TELLS her how he feels.....sigh...
