Alright I wanna start this off by saying that this was written for and about syd, but why should a song just have on meaning? The great think about interperating things is that the interperatation is what it means to you personally. So no one really has a wrong meaning for this song. Now for what when i first read the lyrics i thought the song was about (going of what is literally there, which basically is not floyd style but o well) I first thought this was about war, and more anti-war than anything. most obviously cause the walk on part in the war or lead role in the cage. Stating that either be drafted and not stand out, or resist for what you think is right and be ridiculed and the center of attention while being locked up in jail. The first part of mentioning realizing 2 diverse objects is most likely about seeing the war from both sides. Like more recently in our domination of Iraq, we view it as us going in and heloing, its great for us we dont get hurt. But for the Iraqi people and soldiers it is terrifing and horrible, when we go and invade a country that is no threat to us. And the 2nd verse or what not during two lost souls, is like from a view of a soldier kinda doubting his purpose. Saying what have we found by going and fighting this "glorious" war? Were just two lost souls with no meaning or purpose. Nontheless, no matter how you view this song it is amazing. Good 'ole Floyd |
