This is Chris at his best saying goodbye. The night before you have to say goodbye to someone/sopmething probably forever. The thing he is saying goodbye to is probably something that has died, but not doesn't have to be. he is using the water and clouds as symbols for passage from earth to the heavens (or from one place to a better place). The last part of this song is about envisioning what he said goodbye to, in a place where it would be the happiest. |

Whoever the guy in this song is, either feels dead or would like to be dead. It's not really about how much he wants the other person( i mean it is), but more about he can't stop living in the past and is really feeling sorry for himself, and can't understand what went wrong and why this new guy is better . All he/she would like to do is go back in time or die.
Also in the end of the song it would seem that guy is just pissed(common theme in std songs) and is like "screw everything and to hell with the girl", which is usually the routine way to deal with heartache.
