Deerhoof – Fete d'Adieu Lyrics 12 years ago
One man's take.

Fete d'Adieu is French for Farewell Feast. This is what Google tells me. Coupled with the fact that this is the last track on the album Breakup Song, I think it's about finishing breaking up. Maybe a bit of closure.

If track one, Breakup Song, is the literal breakup conversation that one has, Fete d'Adieu is the moment 84 days later when you decide to be over it.*

I declare the war over anymore. The war is the breakup. Not the conversation but the last 84 days. Drunk texts, apologies, social media bullshit, eating a large pizza in bed stoned while watching I Heart Huckabees, whatever you desire. The "anymore" bit might emphasize the finality a bit. Perhaps the person has repeatedly declared the war over only to find the next day that it still rages. This is the finality, the "but seriously this time" when the person is actually right. This time it's really over.

Ready for a laugh / Ready to be be tough as a robot on the dance floor. This is pretty clear to me. I'm over being down in the dumps. I'm ready for a laugh. I'm ready to take dancing seriously again. I may turn of a bit emotionally, but I'm going to laugh and I'm going to dance. See the video for a bit of guidance on what it might mean to be tough as a robot on the dance floor.

A muscle in my heart. Anytime we talk about the heart being a muscle, we're removing some of the emotion and thinking a bit more biologically. Tonight, the heart is just a muscle that helps me keep dancing. Dancing like a robot on the dance floor.

*This is a number I pulled out of my ass. Please refer to to the link below or some other rule to figure out just how long it should take you to cope with your breakup. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/article-145513/Do-know-golden-rules-breaking-up.html

Paul McCartney – Let 'Em In Lyrics 14 years ago
This song sounds like a relationship to me. It's good, they are happy, in love and all that. But his girl only wants to stay home and be together just the two of them. He's crazy about her, but their friends are calling, knocking, and ringing the bell and he wants to let 'em in.

Arctic Monkeys – Cornerstone Lyrics 15 years ago
I identify with many of the posts up to this point. But here's what I'm thinking tonight.

I think the "Cornerstone" might be an airport (NYC, London?) since Alex moved to NYC with Alexa. The other locations - "the Battleship", "the Rusty Hook", "the Parrot's Beak" - might be drinking holes, airports or airport bars in the US or UK. Perhaps Alex is grappling with the distance...going back to England...going out drinking...knowing Alexa is in NY.

Other posts have suggested this, but I think it's Alexa in NY and Alex doing the US/UK thing. And he's seeing her when he goes out. Alexa is something of a fashionista so maybe these girls dress and look like her. And they're close...

Moe. – St. Augustine Lyrics 16 years ago
in response to kaciii, i can see where you are coming from. but why is it that the woman cannot be asking for god. i think this is a very plausible interpretation. she hungry, homeless and desperate. do people not turn to god in times of desperation?? i'm not saying she IS asking for god, but don't presume to be so omniscient as to say she is NOT asking for god.

some other food for thought. st augustine the man was a theologian who created the framework for just war. he stated that a war could be just if 1) it is ordered by a prince with the proper authority, 2) there is just cause and 3) the intention is right (for good or against evil). i am reminded of this notion of just war when i hear the following lyrics:
Hey Saint Augustine
There's a flaw you see
You've reasoned quite
Illogically

st augustine is also known for his contributions on the idea of original sin. basically that we are all guilty, we all suffer and we all feel a tendency towards sinning. one purpose of this theory is to justify the need to baptize babies soon after birth. hence the moe bit about the baby murdering his brother while "coming out". and this could also be tied to the previous lyric about illogical reasoning.

...a little bit about st augustine...
