| Nine Inch Nails – Something I Can Never Have Lyrics

I remember the first time I heard this song. He sang the line "this thing is slowly taking me apart" and I expected some cliche-type of "heart" rhyme. Then he was like "if I had a heart!" It just chilled me. You can practically taste the despair... |

No comments on one of my favorite NIN songs? That's a shame.
I love this track. The imagery is just so powerful (fresh blood through tired skin / new sweat to drown me in / dress up this rotten carcass just to make it look alive), and the way Trent sings it is amazing. |

| Nine Inch Nails – The Wretched Lyrics

This song really impressed me when I first listened to it. It's so evocative. The way I see it, it's like one of the "Wretched" (i.e. someone who has lost hope for a better life) is talking to another person who's about to become "Wretched." I feel like, toward the end of the track, the music gets louder and harder, and Trent is screaming "You can try to stop it but it keeps on coming... You can try to stop it but it--!" And then suddenly, it's quiet again, and the methodic rythm comes back again. I feel like when the music gets loud, the person if fighting against his own complacency, trying to hold on to hope. Then the music calms and becomes monotonous again, it's like he's given up and accepted that he is not going to accomplish anything. |
