VNV Nation – Carbon Lyrics 22 years ago
First off- I want to know which cd this EagleSword guy was listening to when he added all the lyrics to FuturePerfect- was he writing them from memory or something? Every song is either totally wrong (airships) or has mistakes that aren't derived just from the lyrics being misheard- like he wrote 'screaming into an emptiness' when the lyrics are 'screaming into a void' for this song... sorry- am I listening to a different cd? am i just crazy?

Anyways I digress. To me this song was one of the most difficult of theirs to interpret- the most literal interpretation is obviously that it is about a city and the eventual end of our world due to our own destructive nature- we pollute, cut forests down and 'rain ashes from the sky' in the name of progress, when in fact it is killing our world and will one day kill us. I just don't understand when he is referring to when he says 'a light that can't be seen by anyone' any opinions? ideas? Out of the whole song it is only that line that makes me think of the religious interpretation offering by ScarletFang.
I also heard the voxless version and it is equally beautiful.

VNV Nation – Tempest Lyrics 22 years ago
Someone commented about another VNV song that it made them feel like running into the middle of a field and singing it really loud up into the blue sky... (sorry if I butchered your quote) To me this song describes doing the exact opposite- slowly walking, then running into the eye of the storm and screaming up into the wind and chaos. I haven't been able to discern whether the song is religious in nature- about finding god, or whether it is another song written to do with a love type relationship- perhaps again referring to the girlfriend he had that died? It is such a mystical, mysterious song, such a dark feel to is- the line 'The only sound is a distant thunder.
A tempest rages so far away from me.
I walked for miles and I started running
Towards the sound and storm..' evokes so much imagery. For whatever reason I imagine this one man, alone, in a desert, walking slowly toward a tornado or dust storm that is distant on the horizon. Wow. Writing these little analytical comments about the songs always results in me appreciating them a lot more!

VNV Nation – Beloved Lyrics 22 years ago
I didn't realize that Ronan did have a girlfriend who died, and that definitely gives greater meaning and depth to a lot of his words (not specifically this song- in general)- prior to knowing that, I thought this song is simply about a relationship in the past- I saw it as a high school sweetheart-type of relationship- that ended not through death, but what the detriment of most high school relationships is once high school is over- the need to go out and experience life alone- hence the lyric "but greater things burned within us..."
The power in these lyrics is amazing- it conveys the feeling of this past relationship that just burned with passion and devotion- filled with moments like the one in Standing- but then having to come to terms with reality and make the logical decision to separate... But now that I know Ronan had a girlfriend who died his words take on new meaning... oh well. The above was my interpretation that I applied to my own situation in life and it helped me through. As is the case with all their songs, this one touched me very deeply and evokes great emotion in me when I hear it. (Which isn't often, since no one I know has even heard of VNV Nation- which alternately irritates me and makes me happy- since although they deserve the radio play and the fame and money and whatnot, I selfishly enjoy that only a select few knows them and can appreciate them- if that makes any sense!)

VNV Nation – Arclight Lyrics 23 years ago
This is my favorite song by vnv nation. It conveys such an incredible message, and it's filled with such hopefullness and positivity. At first light of every day starts a new beginning, and the opportunity to break away from fears, darkness and sorrow into light and greatness

VNV Nation – Honour Lyrics 23 years ago
I think that this song is a combination of the two opinions of those above me (XorcistVAC and RayTracer) I feel that it talks about how there is no justice, or reason involved in war, but that in a situation like that, it is our duty to fight for our beliefs and for our children so that in the future, there will be no war

VNV Nation – Kingdom Lyrics 23 years ago
I think this song is about the fact that our world has been totally corrupted - we have destroyed everything. He wants to win the kingdom back for us- reverse all the destruction and make our world a happy place- and in order to do that we must all simply do what we can- turn the darkness into light wherever possible, and eventually, we can save ourselves and our world

VNV Nation – Rubicon Lyrics 23 years ago
To me, this song is about someone who has always been religious and believed in a god, having doubts about their faith. They are hoping and praying that life does not end at death- that there is more. I could be totally off- please write your own opinions of the song

VNV Nation – Saviour Lyrics 23 years ago
This song to me, is just an example of VNV's talent as lyricists. In many of their songs they speak about Heaven- giving the idea that they believe in a god and in an afterlife. This song completely negates this idea- laughing at the idea of a God like most believe him to be. Perhaps this song was written after a personal experience- who knows. But it is awesome, and again, has many different interpretations

VNV Nation – Solitary Lyrics 23 years ago
I'm not going to even try to interpret this song- all I know is that the lyrics invoke these amazing pictures for me. The song is some sort of reflection of mankind, at times I feel it's referring to war, at times I feel it carries the same message as so many other VNV songs do- that if the world were to end, what have we accomplished?
All I know is that these lyrics are some of the most powerful I have ever known. I love the lines "Away , you wretched world of tethers" and "Through the screams of falling steel/By the light of flares and wisdom" and "marked the land with paper statues"
THIS IS SUCH AN AMAZING SONG

VNV Nation – Standing Lyrics 23 years ago
this is my favorite song- it has the most beautiful lyrics. It's just a song about living in the moment, and cherishing life, and never taking any moment for granted. He has an instant of realization - of how incredible life really is, and he is praying that he will be able to life for the rest of his life in that moment of realization - always knowing what a gift life truly is

VNV Nation – Further Lyrics 23 years ago
I feel that this song is about a loved one- he knows that in the grand scheme of things their relationship didn't affect anything- they were only mortal, and their relationship did not transcend time & space, but it was still everything to him, and he is slowly giving up on life inside after losing this person. He wonders if they will ever be together again, perhaps in the future, perhaps in another life, and if that happens, he will remember everything that happened from his own life, and wonder who they were together

VNV Nation – Forsaken Lyrics 23 years ago
this is one of the most beautiful, powerful songs I have ever heard- I think anyone who's ever lost someone can really feel the lyrics 'the day you died i lost my way/the day you died i lost my mind'
I think the song is about a friend who died- and he is pleading with that friend to forgive him for still being alive and living, breathing, bleeding. There are still many things he wants to tell the friend, and he realizes that without that friend in his life, he doesn't know who he is- who's life he leads. This is an incredible song

VNV Nation – Holding On Lyrics 23 years ago
This is the most amazing song I have ever heard. When I first heard it I cried. It is so intense and emotional. The chorus- the way he is crying out into the void - touches me in a way i have never experienced. I have listened to it hundreds of times and i will never stop loving it.
