For me this song is perfect for the time I broke up with my girlfriend, we are back together though. The first verse is going on about everything seems different and has changed in just the one day that we broke up. The chorus is just saying that you have lost something so dear to you and that for a period, when you hugged, you held the world in your arms. My girlfriend is my world and when I do hug her I hold the world in arms. The second verse is about the fact that no matter what you do you can’t get over that special someone. No matter how hard you try it is impossible. That is what the song means to me and everytime I hear I think about when we did break up. |

For me this song means something totally different to what has already been said. For me it is talking about the crippling state of the music industry and how all these new bands get into music for the wrong reason. It’s complaining that all these bands just contract the American dream to be rich and famous and not just great musical artists. Songs should be personal and written to be global like most pop songs. Roddy expresses this in the line “Sing a song about myself” and when he sings “not some invisible world” he is saying you shouldn’t make songs out of meaningless situations you have thought up but your own experiences. “So you let me hear songs that were written all about you, The good songs weren't written for you, They'll never be about you.” – This is about those songs which artists sing from a personal point of view but aren’t actually personal, just fictional stories. “And i won't tell you what this means, 'Cos you already know,” - This line is him talking to those bands. Saying those bands know who and what they and no-one should have to tell them they are fake because deep down they already know it. |
