Hmm...I'd have to say this song is about how, well let me set up the scenario. A guy (David Draiman, since he's the singer) has very little significance to someone, and this other person is real complacent, full of themself, thinking they don't need anyone. But then a time comes when they really do need someone, and that person is the singer. The singer helped them, but won't open up to them, because they don't really think the person they are helping really wants them for anything more than the present moment of need, thus, 'am i precious to you now' only that i am helping you. the singer tells them to turn from the shame of their life and just open up, thus they are helping that person, but they know that once the parasite gets what they want, the singer will be just more dust in the wind again. But through this the singer gets a little attached to the person, and they end up really helping each other out a little bit. But, perhaps I am way off. That's just how I interpret it. |

Maybe I'm being over-analytical, but here's what I think:
A friend has left this person and it is eating away at them. It's 'a nightmare from which they cannot awaken.' They keep replaying the moment of the loss, thus, 'living inside a moment from which I will never awaken.' So basically, it's about loss of friends or relationships and not being able to give them up. |

Also (i just thought of something I want to add to my previous post), the guy molds his life to the person he loves, and in this he becomes all about her, not about living his life to the fullest, thus, losing his freedom. |

Yeah, I'd agree with some of you. To me, this song means that, well let me set up a scenario. Let's say a guy was dating this beautiful girl, and he loves her. He would do anything for her, but sometimes he loses it, just like any other human. Sometimes he goes way over the top. He knows he would do anything for her, and sometimes this makes him fear his freedom is in danger, that perhaps he doesn't live his own life because he's too busy trying to please the one he loves, and he hopes that he can overcome that, consciously and subconsciously. The thought of his jeopardized freedom makes him lose it sometimes. |
