| this may be a little far off, but i've been reading Helter Skelter, and its the true story of the manson murders. In the book they quote around the middle something of a bottomless pit that charles manson often talked of, that in there there was a lake of gold and milk and honey and such. But if you read the book which i strongly encourage you might know what im talking about, because in the song it says....well now that im reading everyones posts here it seems my theory has been shot! hehe! umm, it still seems like it migh relate to helter skelter in a way though...read the book, its somewhat of a huge police reports but its still pretty interesting! anyway this is a great song, i used to be obsessed with it but yeah, i spose people grow out of things! alrighty well thats all i have to say for now! | |

| You all have great points!! i think that aaron was trying to say that there are things that society needs to work on, and there always will be these problems, there isnt anything to do about it but try and get the word out, i sopose, if that makes any sense. I hate when people comlain about how all rock bands do is complain and whine, when they are just telling it like it is, and explaining what they have gone through in life to that we can maybe relate to it and know that we can fix our lives however we want and really have a succesful life. I remember a dj on a local radio station here once said how she was tired of Papa Roach just whining all the time about....well Colby's past and child hood, it was then that someone else that was on the air said that if there were no "whining" in rock music or any music for that matter, we wouldnt really have much music?! ya know?! i laughed so hard when i heard the other girl contradict her like that, it was great! because it is true, most topics in music are relationships, in wich we complain because we dont have someone we want or something is wrong with it, or childhoods, in wich we explain how hard it was for us and such, or society, rebellion etc. we are always complaining about something whether we like it or not, and that is just the nature of people. not to say that there arent songs out there that dont complain about something, but most songs do whine about something?! that was a little longer than i expected but oh well right, now you all know how i feel! bye! | |

| to me this song well twards the end it is talking about getting out of a small town and leaving what you once had behind and moving on to bigger and better things, that was the first thing i cought from the song. probably because i am from a smaller town and want to leave as soon as possible when i graduate high school! Also it can be about overcomming those obstacles, getting to the big bright city after all your hard work i guess?! The begining i think is talking about something totally different entirely....now that i look at it again maybe its not, in my perspective it ties into the leaving of the small town or overcomming those obstacles in that, in the small town you are little, unheard, and feel helpless, but when you get out of the "river" your alive again and can actually make a difference, i sopose?????? but who knows! thats just the way that i read into it! | |

| okay, i just read some of the comments, i wasnt about to sit here and read them all because well theres too many! but i love how you all say she is so real and she is totally herself and that if she was trying to make punk music and she is openly making pop music than thats what makes her so real! well news to you guys, She makes fun of Britney and Justin and all the other pop freaks out there, and i know you will probably say well she makes fun of them because they are not real and not being themselves! but really she makes fun of them because he knows the make pop music, i just think she should stop trying to hard to soo punk and maybe deal with the fact that she cant pull off being punk! as much as she wants to be punk its never going to work! oh an also, "she has such a great voice, it gives me chills" bla bla bla, WOAH HELLO, have any of you ever heard her live? its discustion sounding, granted a lot of bands sound worse live, but she just sounds awful. "Ok so she's not punk at all when she claims to be, but she's a better role model for kids than Britney Spears is. | im not one to go into little forums of things i dont like but i made a special case here! Avril is stupid, she dropped out of high school, she cant sing, she hardly even writes her own music, and she makes fun of pop music when that is the genre of music she is making, she may think its punk all she wants but i dont see rock stations playing her stuff, its all the pop stations! If she didnt try to be punk so much and try so hard to pull it off she just might have done it, her songs are just too poppy to be punk, thats all there is to it. If i were her i would get some voice lessons because she cant sing worth crap live, and then i would get my g.e.d scince she screwed herself out of an education, and then i would write some origional songs that weren't pop crap, and try to get rock stations to play them, not mtv, i would try to get mtv2 rock to play them!! | WOOOOO burst of inspiration...."It's hard to hold the candle in the cold november rain"...that line to me means that its hard to keep the fire in a relationship burning if its going through hard times, "november rain"......also sometimes when there is too much of someone of you spend too much time with them it gets old and you need space a little! When the love is restrained, you are worried of giving too much of yourself away, i know i feel that way in relationships, being hury before it is hard to let it go! but one of my favorite quotes states "love like you've never been hurt!" thats hard to do, but if you dont then you arent giving it all you have, and if you dont do that then the relationship wont last because of doubts. One great theory i have heard is that love is like a triangle, like putting two card against each other, the weight has to be equal otherwise it wont work and the "love" will be destroyed, if there is too much love on one side of the relationship then the love wont last forever, not even in cold november rain! When your fears are gone, you know that they were once their and you cant help but think about those...people are always out to put the blame on others or other things...everyone needs excuses sometimes, just so they have a reason not to love or give all of themselves to one person. I know a lot of people that think they need someone, somtimes that is all you dont need, but other times its just what you need. I LOVE THIS SONG, its one of the best love songs i've ever heard, and its great when a band like Guns N'Roses can pull it off without being too sappy and still having that edge!
