| Common – Retrospect For Life Lyrics

This is the only example I've ever seen of a man taking responsibility and showing emotion about a subject as deep as abortion. Both of them share equal blame in the creation and death of that child, but Common steps up and says lets ensure our futures, lets make sure somethin like this doesn't happen again. Lets be responsible for and to ourselves. And he does all this smoothly without preaching. He has amazing storytelling skills-relating a life lesson without preaching that he has found the way and light and all should follow him. #1 rapper. |

this song made me even more of a fan to common because of the amazin way he personified hip hop. i think today hip hop is so corrupted. They group every rapper into the hip hop genre when rap and hip hop are 2 entirely different things. Ja Rule, P. Diddy, and the 504 boys do not hold a candle to Common, The Roots, De La Soul, Jurassic 5, or Pharcyde in terms of talent or anything else. Its sad to see them lumped together. |

I never read anything extra into the song, I always looked at it from face value, as if she were talkin about a miscarriage, ya know, an actual child...but after reading what you guys had to say, I think maybe she is talking about something innocent within herself. It kind of reminds me of Sarah McLaughlans song I can't remember the title but its on her Fumbling Into Ecstacy |

I love this song. She's my favorite artist so I guess its only fitting that she sing my favorite song. It's not just the depth of the words but the emotions behind them. I'm so glad the track isn't convuluted with some funky beats and soaring orchestras. It's just Mariah wishing for all the lovers out there that we could go back to the good and just stay there. |

This is one of my favorite songs off the Everybody Got Their Something album because its simple. I can't write a love song to save my soul because I think love is too involved but she did it. I think everyone could understand just where she's coming from, no deep thoughts necessary. |

This song is so deep. I think maybe its a plausible fear for a lot of people that you might be the one to put out someones light or stunt their growth. She's just telling him that she can't be the one to do that. She doesn't want to tame him or her. She wants to know them only as that free spirit. It's the ultimate gift you could give someone. Their freedom. (How can I get a copy of that song?) |
