Matthew Sweet – Hide Lyrics 16 years ago
Heard this song today for the first time in forever. It made me think of a girl from my college days. It was one of those situations where we never seemed to be into each other at the same time. By the time I got a clue that she was a great girl, and I should give her a shot, she was way over me. By the time she got re-interested she had graduated ad was getting ready to move cross country, and I was too full of stupid pride to ask her to stay. The stupidity of youth...

Placebo – Without You I'm Nothing Lyrics 22 years ago
This song is definately not about drug addiction as Rxqueen suggests, though it is an interesting interpretation. I base this on the use of spleen in it's alternate meaning: feelings of anger or ill will often suppressed. So the line "and everytime you vent your spleen," should be interpreted as "everytime you vent your anger," suggeting an actual person.

I take this to be a song about imagined love, ie infatuation. I think the failing relationship is between mismatched people. One more conservative than the other. The failing of the relationship is due to their extreme differences.

Going back to the line before the one previously mentioned "I'm unclean, a libertine (a person who is unrestrained by convention or morality)" is part of the cause for the other party to vent his/her anger.

The speaker feels that the love of the more conservative person is what will save them from his dissolute life, but the end is nearing (simulated by the lyric "tick tock").

The Sheila Divine – Spacemilk Lyrics 22 years ago
I agree. I hung out with these guys back when they were touring in support of this album. They did an interview with the college station I was working with at the time. These guys put on one excellent show.

Toad the Wet Sprocket – Eyes Open Wide Lyrics 23 years ago
I tend to listen to this track whenever I'm feeling overly cynical or start losing sight of the small elements that create the big picture. It reminds me of what it felt like to be a child, when all the small details seemed to be so interesting. In other words, Eyes Open Wide helps to ground me and reminds me that if I let the small things slide by, I'm missing life.
