In the most straightforward sense, it seems that this song is essentially about being tired of doing all the work in a relationship. Could be a friendship, could be a romantic fling. Nothing he does makes the person feel any better about themselves, and he's just realized that he's doing all the work and they aren't willing to even meet him halfway by taking him or anything he says seriously -- so he washes his hands of them. Great song. I relate. |

I'm with deathrockboy, it is pretty nihilistic. I always take even the first verse's "today is the greatest day I've ever known" as bitter bitter sarcasm. Then the rest of it is pretty straight foreward. He makes it sound all happy just to be morbid, and to show the contrast of what people see to what reality is. |

I think this song is about someone who secludes himself, because life (or someone in his life) hurt him so much. "radio, play my favorite song" he's reffering to the only contact he has to the outside world, its the song that makes him forget the pain, maybe that takes him back to the time before. |
